I've got a few daemons of chaos, seekers of slaanesh and a chariot to paint up and i've decided to go with the black for the beasts that they ride, but no idea how to get the black to not look plain and 1 dimensional would be great to get some tips to help so i can get started and cross something else off my to do list.

With a great deal of patience! But should be fun.

Dry brush and highlight loads with drak greys into pale grey/blues with a fine white final highlight. Probably about 4 colours minimum.

1) Take whatever you are using for an edge highlight like a shadow gray or some green

2) I rub off most of the paint to a drybrush amount of paint load.

3) Pick the middle of a flat panel and replicate the frame in the middle, should be about the size of 1/3 the surface. If it is a curved surface I try to make almost a line down the cylinder of say a leg or an arch on shoulder pads.

4) Look up "Zenithal highlighting" as well, that may achieve what you are looking for.

Use a near-black/very dark gray, shade it with a black wash, clean up with the very dark gray, and then edge highlight/drybrush raised portions with a slightly lighter gray.

Typically using pure black is just not going to look right at all.

This ^.
Use an old paint pot to mix your own very dark grey so the colour is consistent over the whole army.
