Matt and glossy air brush problems

Hey dakka, been a while, i have a bit of a conundrum i want to see if you can all help me with.

So i have been using this air brush for a while, not a top of the line but it works, mostly to paint black over the army painter black primer, i use the citadel paint because it is very flat which is what i want.

So i mixed some of the citadel paint with some liqidex airbrush medium, used it on a land raider and it came out just like it would from the citadel pot no problem, had a nice matt finish.

A few weeks later, came back tried it again this time on a stormtalon, but this time, it put a shinny coat on it, like polished onxy kinda shiny, and i cant for the life of me find out what the hell is going on.

Any one else have any experience with this kind of issue?

It is most likely your paint to thinner mixture. The thinner the paint the more likely it is to be shiny. Either way you can just continue to paint shiny and spray a matt coat over it at the end to dull all the colors down.

Yeah, I use a matt coat as the last step, to get a nice consistent finish to models. That way the variety of paints, washes etc. comes out in a predictable way.

Matt and glossy air brush problems

quick update to this, i think i have found the problem.

while running some water and rubbing alcohol through the airbrush after failing with my last attempt to paint i noticed something off. the paint was bubbling in the pot and was not feeding. it seemed that the feed was clogged and what would happen as i would pull back on the trigger to try and let paint flow down it would not, then letting the trigger go back forward it would pull some of the paint with it, resulting is a heavy concentration of the paint.

So what happened was the paint was going on to much which if you look in the pot for the citadel black its pretty shiny, which was what the issue was, a clogged feed, which the only way to get paint to flow was to allow a large amount of it trough resulting in a very think layer from a airbrush.

Letting the airbrush soak in water now, hopping to looses the dried on paint., will let you all know if any thing happens later today after classes
