Annoying Oblit build

Any tips on putting oblits together? I hate making them with the fiddley gun barrels that you have to stick straight on the arm. With poor sockets and tons of flash on the fitting parts. They are so annoying to build, advice needed. Then just jab them in there however you want. Most of the arm detail is mushy flesh, so it blends in pretty well without much additional sculpting.
