Vostroyan Firstborn Help Required

Hi,

I have recently acquired the following models (£60 i paid) and I was wondering if this a good start for building an imperial guard army? Originally I got them for making a diorama but as there are more than I need I thought I may start collecting.

Also how many points are the models I have I got my hands on worth?

Unfortunately I know nothing about the guard I've never even played against them hence my post here.

The models are:

Castellan Creed

Imperial Guard Vostroyan Command Squad

2 x Imperial Guard Vostroyan Firstborn Squad complete with heavy weapon team.

2x Snipers

1x mortar team

1x Lascannon team.

I know this is minimal in terms of force organisation but I was hoping it was a decent start.

Also is there such thing as a viable/reasonably competitive army list containing first born only as I like them a lot more than the other models.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Ah ok I didn't know if they played different to any other of the guard variants but if not that's a good start.

Yeah was a good deal all unpainted too.

Suppose the next best thing is to get a codex but I may wait as I've heard guard could be revamped for 6th soon.

Thanks.

Re:Vostroyan Firstborn Help Required

You may want to wait for the new codex to drop, but there are certain things that are almost assuredly not going to change. You have a decent (if small for IG) troop base to start with. If you get a couple of Chimeras and a Leman Russ, you'll have yourself a pretty balanced 750-point list, treating the vostroyan as veterans. If you like flyers (and competitiveness) you will probably want to go after Valkyries rather than chimeras.

It depends on how you want to play, but basically with the current IG codex, you either run huge units of generic guardsmen on foot, or small units of veterans in chimeras. At higher points, you probably want some of both. But, if you want to get going quickly with what you have now, that's the way to go: put the two squads in transports and get yourself and Leman and/or some artillery and you're set.

Cheers for that some great info for me to go on there.

Tempted with some tanks as they are really nice for airbrushing as are the flyers so sounds like they would fit the painting and gaming side of things just to my taste.

I have an app with all the different types of IG units on but at this stage its a bit overwhelming as I have no clue what does what (veterans etc) so like you say ill probably hang fire for the codex coming.

Pleased to know I could probably squeeze 750 points from this list with minimal additional models.

Thanks
