Help Building Apocalypse Army Lists --IG Mech and Space Marines

I wanted to work on a showpiece 'army list' consisting of 2500 points of Imperial Guard and 2500 points Space Marines. Having never played IG or SM, and having not played anything in 6th edition yet, I was hoping I could get some assistance in building two army lists designed to support and work alongside one another. While it would be nice for it to be a competitive army list, that is secondary to something that would just be fun to play (I mean, this is 5000 points for an apocalypse game).

The overall theme between the armies is Adeptus Mechanicus (the IG) and Steel Confessors (SM). About all I'm sure on is I want a mech-heavy list, posssibly something heavy with high-tech/heavy weapons --things you would expect the Mechanicus to field.

Right now I'm thumbing through both the SM and IG codices, but there's a lot of new lists to take in. I was hoping users here at Dakka Dakka could give me an idea, at least, where to start with the army lists.

Thank you for your time.

Are you looking for two 2.5k lists that would function well as separate armies? Or are you just concerned with the 5k apoc list?

More concerned with it working as a functioning 5k list, but the ability to play separately would be nice for the times we don't play Apocalypse.

Re:Help Building Apocalypse Army Lists --IG Mech and Space Marines

Ah, okay. Personally, I like to build apoc armies around specific formations. So here are my suggestions:

Imperial Guard:
Baneblade variant - magnetize to allow running multiple types
"Emperor's Fist" Tank Company - 10 LR (3 squads of 3 and 1 command tank)
2 ten man vet squads in Chimeras
Command squad in Chimera

This is supposed to have a very mech feel. Tons of tanks and fire power. The vet squads serve as objective holders, and it has more AV14 than you can shake a stick at.

Space Marines
"Masters of the Chapter" - Chapter master, 4 captains, honor guard, apothecary, land raider
"Predator Assassin Squadron" - 3 predators
2 ten man tac marine squads with rhinos
3 five man scout sniper squads
2 five man terminator squads

Unfortunately, most of the formations require a full company. While it is visually striking and fluffy to have a company, it would be about 3k points and over your point limit. So instead I went with the 2 that you could get cheaply. The chapter masters will give plenty of strategic assets and the preds give more mech anti-tank shooting. The rest is a mix of squads that will be useful in a lot of different games and situations.

Obviously neither of these armies will be cheap. If price is a problem, there are a couple different formations that can be run. But I think that these 2 lists will compliment each other well, give a good mech feel, and pour out a ton of firepower on your opponents.
