Tips for a new painter

So, I've been playing WH40K since 2009, and I've only just now started to make some not S*** models. So can any of you glorious painters out there give me some tips on how to not suck? to sum up what I know is:
1. water down paints
2. washes are liquid talent
3.keep your brushes in good condition
4. dry brushing is very useful
Any tips would be helpful, I've painted a few space marines, my entire guard army, most of my necrons, and i just started building a grey knight army, so I want some tips before I start on them. Should I assemble before or after i paint, should I prime before or after i paint, how should I hold the models and paint them (if they are assembled), so on and so forth

Depends how you plan on painting them. When I did my Knights, I assembled them as much as possible(allowing for weapons that blocked faces etc)only the backpacks were left off. This was because I dryrushed them so there was no real need for seperate parts. It also makes it a lot quicker! I tend to just hold models by the base when painting, but you could always fix them to some card with double sided tape I suppose.
