A good serpent loadout for my Storm Guardians

So I've been looking into getting my third serpent here soon and I was wondering what you guys thought might be a great loadout for them without diving into Scatter Lasers.

Yes, Scatter Lasers are the best, but honestly, I don't really need another serpent with them to win games...so let's mix it up to make the unit more interesting.

My Storm Guardians are stock +2 flamers.

I was thinking that dual Shuriken Cannons/Holo-fields might be a good buy...it's got enough shots that I can leave that shield up on the Serpent who needs it most and the 24" range reflects the close range support of the Storms.

Anyone have any input on weapons or gear to consider?

If you don't want to use the Scatter Laser then I'd say a Bright Lance. Since you're going to be aggressive with this tank, you can try to get some side-armor shots off and since it is still a 'laser lock' weapon, they make your Shurikan Cannon shots rerollable for extra glancing hits. This can also compliment your Storm Gaurdians if you're going for a transport.

With storm guardians, you probably want vectored engines so you can deploy safely out of the back, then rotate after shooting.

Since your going for a dual flamer build, why not make your serpent a hard armor cracker? Take bright lances and a shuriken cannon, then just move 6 and blast the crap out of a tank, hopefully exploding it. Battle focus the guardians up, and roast the troops inside.

I would say either a Starcannon or double shuriken cannon. If this was still 5th, I'd say BL too, but since you're more likely to wreck a transport with 6 S6 shots than 1 S8 shot, I'd go for double shuricannons. And if you're taking a BL AND a shuriken cannon, that creates a confusion as to your intended targets. This Serpent also doesn't really need Holofields, as you're so close that your opponent can and will focus it down in shooting or even assault it, making those 15 points less useful than when you're sitting 36" away. Take Vectored, if you have the points, otherwise, just keep it the cheapest you can, while still being an effective transport wrecker. With just the underslung cannon, you're looking at 125 points. Not bad.

Actually starcannons would be cool. Ap2 on the cannons mean that if they penetrate, you have the same odds as the bright lance to blow up the thing.... but less chance to wreck something light and nothing heavy.

Either way since your moving 6" to disembark, a chin cannon is a must so you can throw the shield, top and bottom gun at full BS.

A good serpent loadout for my Storm Guardians

Well, the best loadout is tl scatter laser, underslung shuricannon, and holofield.

This was before superheavies entered normal 40k games. Now you need some means to deal with units having AV 12 to 14 and HP 6 to 12.

The answer could be bright lances, but they are not really compatible with the Serpent shield. So this will dilute effectiveness.

Another answer is Fire Dragons. Their meltas will inflict penetrating hits on a 4+. Then you can keep the Serpent's loadout as it was before introducing Escalation.
