Yes you can store them vertically. The paint rack I have for them is very much like a wine rack where they are vertical with a slight lean towards the cap.

And just so you know, Valejo recommends that you roll, not shake the paint, to avoid the bubbles and get better mix on the paint...

I have made a homemade roller you can build for about 2 bucks...

Storing the bottles horizontally should actually help you get even mixes by rolling, as the separation happens perpendicular to the nozzle and parallel to the direction of the bottle's travel.
