Brand New Player / Hobbyist - Diary of a Newbie Painter

Started playing Only War tabletop RPG with my buddies and it got me into the Warhammer 40k army hobby. I read some tutorials online and looked into some other resources and painted my very first miniature ever. I wanted to get some constructive criticism on what I can do better and maybe some tips and tricks that can help my style. I am starting off with an Ork army and, without further ado, here is my first feeble attempt at an Ork Boy with Shoota from the Goff clan. Let me know what you think and if there are any obvious areas to improve upon. Thanks for your time!

These work?

Pictures do work now!
Looks pretty solid though, I would probably paint the gun in leadbealcher and then slap on some nuln oil wash and then try some highlighting with runefang silver

Also maybe a bit brighter for the skin tones (or some brighter highlights) but that is just my personal opinion on Ork skin tones haha

I like them, and the basing.

however, I would say they are a bit...dark.

Darker minis will lose some "visual detail" on the table top...I know that sounds kind of weird, or maybe subjective...

Maybe a bit of dry brushing or some kind of highlighting on the arms etc.

HOWEVER, you are the most important person when it comes to being satisfied with your army - they do look great, and if you think they look fine 3' away on that table top, thats all that matters.

thanks for sharing.

Re:Brand New Player / Hobbyist

These look amazing my friend, actually oustanding for you first mini.

I am also new to wargaming and have just finished my first ever squad, a ten man tactical.

My only suggestion would be to lift the color of the skin just to break that flatness. Throw a dob of white into your base green color, only a bit though and lift the color. Do this several times with more white and lift the raised muscles of the arms and face, it'll make such a difference and you'll be so surprised at how easy it is to do. Don't be impatient and use water to thin the paint to help spread it evenly without clobbing.

Other than that man, you don't require a lot of feedback. You've stayed within the lines of painting rules, it looks real, it looks good and the colors all work.

Thanks for the feedback on the color. I might take anohter crack at highlighiting them. I have the next 2 lighter colors mixed up and ready to go. Trying to decide if the darker orks is cool enough to be "my thing". In the meantime, here is my next project that I just finished.
