600pts Iron Hands List

Hey, I play for fun most the time and like to record how well my units do (or not) in battle for fluff reasons. But I've never really made competitive lists, or at least ones i think are. There is a small 600 points P&P going on at my local GW and I am trying to use it to get my army finished, and get some practice using more rounded/competitive list. I have 2 list here (the first I did use the 2nd will use this week) and basically just wanted to know what people think? i.e. am I heading in the right direction.

List A
Librarian 105pts
lvl 2
mindforge staff

Techmarine 55pts
storm bolter

10 man Tac Squad 185pts
Vt.
600pts Iron Hands List

To be competitive I'd recommend a few things:

1) you have a lot of points in HQ for this points level. If you want a repairing HQ try beefing up a master of the forge. I don't like Technarines because they have 1 wound. I'd drop the Techmarine and just take the librarian. Don't bother repairing the razorback because it will bet one-shorted rather than glanced to death.

2) you want your tac squad load-outs to match range and purpose. Take plasma/combi plasma or melta/combi melta. Forget flamers at this points level, you can bolter or tank shock infantry off objectives. Also vet sgt is a waste of points bc they can easily get challenged out or you will want to fail morale and run so you can bolter again on your turn (you auto rally); save the points.

3) what is the mindforge staff? Is your plan to use him as a ranged buffing unit (i.e. Telepathy), or a close combat beast (i.e. Biomancy)?

4) The TFC is great.

Here's something to try:

Librarian - lvl 2, force axe
Tac Squad - 5x bolter, melta, combi-melta, rhino
Tac Squad - 10x bolter, lascannon, razorback w/lascannons
TFC

Libby with Biomancy or telepathy goes with the rhino squad and combat squad the tac marines with the razorback so that bolter marines are in the transport and the lascannon and 5 sit in cover and snipe. The twin linked assault cannons would be good too on the razorback in this points level, but I like the lascannon redundancy.

Lemme know what you think.

600pts Iron Hands List

(Firstly, I apologise for any bad grammar/errors I'm about to make cause I'm replying on my phone which isn't as easy as I thought lol)

Thanks for the advice;
1) I was trying out a more "fluffy" list, having the techmarine there to lead a tac squad. It was mostly cause I play the Clan rules and rarely take techmarines. Just felt I should try it out.

2) That's a good point, I forget about the auto-rally stuff. So those are points I'll defiantly be saving next time out.

3) The Mindforge is a relic Sx2 AP2 Unwieldy, Concussive, Force & Melee (if you wanted stats). He is in there for close combat, I took him with Pryomancy but was seriously considering biomancy for him.

Any thoughts on list B? I'm thinking it might be a little light on men or heavy on the old tanks.

I don't like list B because you have only 10 scoring bodies, and they are in razorbacks that wanna shoot from a distance, not push towards an objective, but having the close combat Libby in there is contradictory. I would strongly consider the Libby in a rhino with the a tac squad that wants to press an objective. Also, I don't like heavy weapons on the razorback squads because you can't shoot out and when you disembark you will be snapping.. Just take a combi

Re:600pts Iron Hands List

yea, i was fairly sure there were too few bodies in the second list. I'm not too bothered about snap shooting the Hv Bolter cause its odds are almost identical to the bolter's for chance to wound over 12". But will definatly start making some combi-weapons up for my Sgts.
