Tyranid Paint Scheme

Been wandering around the internet for help on painting my tyranids. I have a few models that I can start to experiment with.

I would like my models to have a scheme like the one used by ThirdEyeNuke, a grey/white flesh, glossy black carapace and pink/red maws/gun openings. Check out his Flickr page to see his work, its fantastic.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/71627366@N04/

My models obviously won't be at the standard of his but I would like to begin with a scheme like the one he has used.
Unsure where to start and what colours to use. If someone could help with a basic method for painting the models that would be awesome.

Thanks, emer.

Tyranid Paint Scheme

Those look airbrushed. But here's some steps that I think should get you something similar with regular brushes.

1. Prime white, and then go over it with a white basecoat (so that it's not patchy).

2. Give the whole thing a black wash (nuln oil I think is the current GW black wash). This will darken the whole model to a greyish colour.

3. Apply a greenish brown wash, just to the deeper crevices.

4. Paint the carapace and claws black.

5. Get your white paint back out and hit that thing with a white overbrush all over. Then do it again, focusing more on the upper halves of limbs. Some of it will go onto the black carapace/claws, giving it that powdery look.

6. Grab a flesh wash, and apply it messily over your newly whitened jaws, gun tips, etc. Pick out the teeth in white first, so they stick out afterwards.

6. There is some glossy blood coloured stuff applied on top of the flesh wash. Maybe gloss varnish mixed with dark red paint? not sure.

Oh I was looking through posts by Nuke and found that to paint the carapace he uses a black coat, then drybrushes silver lightly and then gives it a satin varnish.

Thanks for the help
