Covert SM Scouts idea

I currently have Sgt. Telion, 10 SM Scouts (leaning towards w/CCW & BP but that might change) and I'm looking to purchase 5 SM Sniper Scouts. The problem I have is I don't know which of my 2 armies I'll use them with, my primary detachment (a purple themed army) or my allied detachment (an orange themed army).

So my solution is to paint them all as covert SM Scouts. I want them to have no distinctive army marking, no purple or orange. That way I can field them with either army. I'm thinking of a black/gray/khaki color combo. The idea that they fade into the shadows no matter where they are and if they're caught by the enemy they give up who they were fighting for.

Any ideas on painting them to fit this convert and army flexibility I'm having?

Covert SM Scouts idea

Back when I first picked up my scouts I did the same thing. I hadn’t decided which of my armies (BA or Ultras) was going to be my main focus, and was still painting units for both. So my scouts got painted in a green forest camouflage, without unit markings. The lack of insignia was twofold: They had not yet earned the right to wear the heraldry of the chapter, and it was their job to gather intel, not give it out.

The only problem if using them in a mixed allied environment, is telling what rules they are working with. I suspect most of the time, you’ll be able to tell your opponent and it won’t be a big deal. But if you have a lot of counts-as and non WYSWYG stuff he needs to track, it could be easy to forget. You might want to build magnets into the bottom of the bases and get some washers and paint some purple/orange, and use the ones that match the faction they are working with. Or some other trick to help differentiate.

But most of the time you’ll be fine.

@Nevelon It seems we share the same vision for the scouts. I like you're idea of the magnets on the bases, that way I can tack something on there later on to show which army they belong too without interfering with the overall look of the model. Thanks for the idea!
