Got a bit too much Tamiya putty on miniature, how to correct?

Hi guys, I was assembling a plastic model and used Tamiya putty to try and fill up the gaps between the pieces, but its my first time using the putty and I ended up getting a bit too much on the model and it got onto some of the exterior detail. Tried getting it off, but it dried pretty fast and now some excess is stuck on the model.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to correct the issue, will just using an x-acto knife to carefully chisel away some of the excess be best or should I try and remove the putty and start from scratch?

If removing it is best, then what method? Will simple green or nail polish remover work? Or will it require some other method?

Thanks, I took my knife to the putty and most came off without damaging the plastic, only a small amount remains now, I think its good enough to prime.

Is the small grit sandpaper safe for plastic minis?
