A person may go his or her entire life without firing a single live round of ammunition ( Video games don't count) and say that firearms should only be carried/owned by police and military, since their only real experience with firearms would be of those groups using them on a regular basis.

Pertaining to the topic at hand tough I think that this was really well done. It's one thing to hear about the destructive power of firearms in history or how it is used to tar families apart, but its quite another to the pressure of the recoil and to be looking down at a target. It will give them pause of thought and when they are old enough to own a fire arm I hope they do so as an adult and not as 'I want it, I want it, its so awesome!'

Middle school students go on field trip to shooting range with Appleseed

Fine, here's the details.

I am almost certain that the company just grabbed a dead cat off the street and stuffed it in a bag to meet quotas.

1. the cat was about half the weight of the other cats, and packed in the same amount of preserving fluid. There was a small flood when we took it out of the bag since the thing was literally saturated.

2. The die that was supposed to be injected into the veins and arteries to outline them...wasn't. I'm pretty sure they tried to pump too much in and something burst because the entire body cavity was pretty much a uniform brown and unrecognizable.

3. Perhaps related to the above...the cat must have eaten well and the digestive system was, how shall we say, full. (although we did get a bonus trying to dissect the mouse we found in its stomach...)

If I'd wanted something like a high powered rifle for deer hunting, I'd have to do a course on rifle safety and how to shoot and kill deer humanely. You make lots of noise and smoke and if your lucky you might hit something, possibly even what you intended to hit.

I wish I was able to get a blackpowder gun. The rifle or pistol itself is not a problem, but unfortunatly I have nowhere to properly store black powder so doubt I will get an ‘Acquire and keep’ explosives certificate... Eventualy I will get round to going down to the local range on black powder night and find out about storage at the range or purchase on the day if I get an 'Acquire only’ certificate, which would be the prefrence, as I don't realy want a safe full of loose explosives in my house long term.

Re:Middle school students go on field trip to shooting range with Appleseed

Funny how the gang bangers dont gravitate to firearms they can legally own (OH WAIT! Criminals DONT follow laws).

As per BATFE:

1. Can a person prohibited by law from possessing a firearm acquire and use a black powder muzzle loading firearm?
The Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA) prohibits felons and certain other persons from possessing or receiving firearms and ammunition (“prohibited persons”). These categories can be found at 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) and (n) in

http://atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5300-4.pdf
.
However, Federal law does not prohibit these persons from possessing or receiving an antique firearm. The term “antique firearm” means any firearm (including any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured in or before 1898. The definition includes any replica of an antique firearm if it is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition, or uses rimfire or conventional centerfire ammunition which is no longer manufactured in the United States, and which is not readily available in ordinary channels of commercial trade. Further, any muzzle loading rifle, shotgun, or pistol which is designed to use black powder or black powder substitute, and which cannot use fixed ammunition, is an “antique firearm” unless it (1) incorporates a firearm frame or receiver; (2) is a firearm which is
converted into a muzzle loading weapon; or (3) is a muzzle loading weapon which can be readily converted to fire fixed ammunition by replacing the barrel, bolt, breechblock, or any combination thereof.

See 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(3), (a)(16).
Thus, a muzzle loading weapon that meets the definition of an “antique firearm” is not a firearm and may lawfully be received and possessed by a prohibited person under the GCA.
In addition, the GCA defines the term “ammunition” to mean “ammunition or cartridge cases, primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for use in any firearm.” Because an “antique firearm” is not a “firearm,” it would is lawful for a prohibited person to receive or possess black powder designed for use in an “antique firearm.” Also, the Federal explosives laws do not make it unlawful for a prohibited person to acquire and possess black powder in quantities not exceeding fifty pounds if it is intended to be used solely for sporting, recreational, or cultural purposes in “antique firearms.”

See
18 U.S.C. § 845(a)(5)

http://www.atf.gov/files/firearms/industry/0501-firearms-top-10-qas.pdf

Middle school students go on field trip to shooting range with Appleseed

My first experience with firearms was with BB guns when I was, maybe 16. I didn't know anything about safety, but it's just something you pick up, as long as the people around you aren't afraid to correct you and tell you that you're doing something wrong. When I moved on to real firearms, it seemed intuitive. They were just things you don't do.

It's funny, but I was so massively excited to be issued my rifle in Boot Camp. It was like putting my hands around a woman for the first time. My fingers caressed every little spot on that rifle. Just thinking about it makes me excited. I still get the same sort of reaction when I get called up to armory to clean my rifle. It's like making love. Every child should be taught how to love and care for a rifle the proper way. 105721151 was her name...

That's part of why I don't understand gun control people. That love is so intuitive and natural, and it's like they're trying to destroy it.
