I would never run him with claws and I would only run him with Sword and SB in a fluffy game. There's something really disappointing about getting insta-gibbed by a techmarine 'cause you can't get past his 2+ save and you fail your 4++ on his counter-attack. Yes you lose the initiative advantage but you're most likely gonna be on foot anyway and will often assault through cover (without grenades) so you might as well swing hard and have better durability.

The Knights are debatable, I personally would never use them without a LRC (again from a competitiveness standpoint). They're way to easy to stay away from when they're DS'ing or footslogging and you NEED the charge (and extra attack) when you're going after that big scary unit that you're gonna use beastmode on.
