Mechanized Militarium Tempestus 2000pts.

Hello everyone, now that I have my copy of the Militarium Tempestus Codex I have been debating running either an "Airborne Themed" list top add another 2000pts. to my Elysian Drop Troops, however the more and more I have been reading it I have been getting the impression that this may be achieved better with the new "Astra Militarium" Codex and have put some thought into developing another Astra Militarium Regiment. Now I have developed a Mechanized style of list purely out of the Militarium Tempestus book that I think would be decently competitive and a lot of fun to play. The only difference is that instead of the new Taurox model I would be using this: http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?16443-Chapterhouse-studios-rapid-response-Chimera-Conversion with the appropriate weapons put on it and in the appropriate places. This is my first attempt at putting together a Mechanized style list with these guys so please, any comments, thoughts or ideas are more then welcome and thanks for reading guys!

HQ:

-Scion Company Command Squad "Warlord"
*w/ x4 Melta Guns
*In Valkyrie*

-Scion Company Command Squad
*w/ x4 Melta Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

TROOPS:

-x5 Scions "Deep Strike"
*w/ x2 Melta Guns

-x5 Scions "Deep Strike"
*w/ x2 Melta Guns

x10 Scions
*w/ x2 Plasma Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

x10 Scions
*w/ x2 Plasma Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

x10 Scions
*w/ x2 Plasma Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

x10 Scions
*w/ x2 Plasma Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

FAST ATTACK:

-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

-Valkyrie
*w/ TL-Lascannon, Hellstrike Missiles, Door Gunners (*Note: Tempted to change out Door Gunners for Rocket Pods*)

FORTIFICATIONS:

-Aegis Defence Line
*w/ Comms Relay

TOTAL ARMY: 2000 POINTS

Tactics:

-x7 Taurox Primes (x6 with Troops) with Missiles and Autocannons putting out a whopping 14 Missiles and 14 Autocannon Shots a turn, all with searchlights so if I get the first turn I can do as much damage as possible. I think one of the biggest strengths of this Codex is the orders, and shoving these dudes in a Valkyrie means you're not really exploiting that. You're missing out on twinlinking, giving rending and sniper to a squad, and any one of those could make the difference between an MC or heavy infantry squad getting blamm'd or not. I'd run this squad in a Taurox Prime, honestly.

Just swap one of the Primes in your FA slots with this Valkyrie so your AA doesn't become too terrible.

-Scion Company Command Squad
*w/ x4 Melta Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

TROOPS:

-x5 Scions "Deep Strike"
*w/ x2 Melta Guns

-x5 Scions "Deep Strike"
*w/ x2 Melta Guns

x10 Scions
*w/ x2 Plasma Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

x10 Scions
*w/ x2 Plasma Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

x10 Scions
*w/ x2 Plasma Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

x10 Scions
*w/ x2 Plasma Guns
-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

FAST ATTACK:

-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

-Taurox Prime
*w/ Missile Launcher, Autocannons, Searchlight

-Valkyrie
*w/ TL-Lascannon, Hellstrike Missiles, Door Gunners (*Note: Tempted to change out Door Gunners for Rocket Pods*)

The only reason I'd say you shouldn't ditch this is because its AA.

They will all be behind the Aegis Defence line to give me a much needed cover save as these guys are super fragile and a comms relay to ensure my guys get one the table.

You won't win a stand and shoot war with this list, a 5+ cover is better than just the crappy AV, but it will result in some volleys of fire from your opponent that will cripple you. (unless the Taurox is smaller than I think it is, its not getting the 75% 4+ cover bonus)

14 missiles and autocannon shots really isn't that amazing, your average IG... I mean AM army will put out considerably more fire than that at 75% of this points level. If you were to even try, I don't understand why you'd take full Scion Squads - you want to min/max with that sort of tactic and not waste points on models that work in the short range but have to wait for the enemy to come to them.

-Majority of my Scions have Plasma Guns to give me some AP2 and a bit more range while my Command Squads and x2 Deep Striking Squads are armed with Melta Guns to deal with the Imperial Knights, Super Heavies and other vehicles and Monstrous Creatures.

A couple of meltaguns is not going to deal with monstrous creatures, especially Riptides. All your best MC killers, namely your plasma guns, and *gasp* hotshot lasguns when the order granting sniper is used, are going to be the back doing nothing.

-x1 Valkyrie kitted out the way it is to fight other fliers as that is its primary role in this army.

A good change I would reccomend is giving at least two of the primes the best anti-infantry loadout with TL Gatling + TL Hotshot Volley Gun. 14 TL S4 shots, which is definitely going to pile on the wounds and get multiple kills on even Marine infantry. Considering your list has relatively little (basically no effective anti-infantry given your stand and shoot tactic, your lasguns are 18'') anti-infantry, this would plug that hole a bit.

The key, underlining problem though is your strategy. You're being given obscene mobility and the opportunity to get your short range killers in close, and you want to squander that to flash some mediocre numbers of mediocre heavy weapons? Nah.

You want to be on the offensive and getting within the sweet spot where your firepower becomes brutal. Otherwise you may as well play IG- *COUGH* Astra Militarum.

Reason for the high number of Missile Launcher and Autocannons are due to the high number of Eldar players at my store as the vast majority all run some form of either Wave Serpent or Wraithknight spam and against armies like that the idea would be to hang back and bombard with Missiles and Autocannons before rushing forward to deal my scion payload. That being said I can still utilize my obscene mobility and zip around the board while bombarding with missiles and Autocannons, basically depending on my opponent. Besides changing a few Taurox's to have Gatling Cannons and Hot Shot Volley Guns anything else you would suggest? Like for example is the Aegis Defence Line a good investment in this style of list?
