Phone took a swim, still kinda works, some advice?

Hey, so long story short, my phone took a swim last night, but it still kinda works, it (seemingly) charges properly, and it turns on/starts up/mostly functions properly, the problem is its shutting itself down at the point that the screen shuts off after inactivity. In some instances, it seems that it continues functioning beyond that point (the text message/facebook notification indicator light blinks if I get a notification), but if I push the power button to turn the screen back on, the phone instead seems to reboot and starts up again fresh.

The phone is a Droid Razr Maxx, I currently have the back cover removed (can't remove the battery) and placed both halves inside of tightly wrapped (and taped) plastic wrap with some spare silica gel packets I had lying around from various sources in the hopes of drying out some excess moisture.

Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts to explain this unusual behavior and a possible prognosis for my phone? I'm of the mindset that if its mostly functioning like this, then perhaps it can/will make a 'full recovery', my current line of thinking is that theres some moisture between the contacts on the power button causing a short whenever it gets pressed, but that doesn't explain why it sometimes seems to shut itself off before the button is depressed (although it seems that started occurring once I removed the back cover, so maybe its simply the result of vibration causing the battery to come out of contact or something?).

May still be a little wet on the inside. I've heard that if you put it in a bag of rice, the rice will help absorb the moisture. Never tried it though.

I left my phone in the laundry and it went through a full wash cycle.

I took out the battery and left it all open to dry for several days.

Once recharged it worked fine, although there was a ring mark inside the screen and a lot of paint had been worn off.

Phone took a swim, still kinda works, some advice?

It appears to be dead, tried booting it up after not using it for most of the day to see if the silica gel packets did their job or not (note: they are much more effective than rice), phone started booting, crashed and now won't power on at all, tried plugging it into charger to see if theres anything still 'alive' in there, no joy :(

Anyone have creative solutions to get a new phone from verizon without insurance and/or an upgrade (I gave mine to my brother cuz his died, his upgrade isn't available until later in the summer)
