The one thing I have had a hard time finding is the old metal mortars, for which I have the crew, but after moving two or three times, the mortars themseles disappeared. I could use the new plastic ones, but I much prefer the look of the older ones. Does anyone know of a good replacement/substitute?

Usually you can find them pretty cheap, sometimes without crew. Mortars seem the least desired heavy weapon so they're less than lascannons usually. With even just the bottom hemisphere/base plate and the tripod thing, it will look as much of a mortar as you could possibly need. And you'd get a bit more experience converting stuff to boot.
