My Chaos Marine blog (with a tiny dash of Orks on the side).

Hello and welcome to my foray into the world of 40k painting, modeling, and gaming.

Spoiler:

First things first, I'm not sure what I am calling my army, but I do have a theme to it, kinda. My idea is a group of Nurgle followers and a few Fallen Angels have come together to fight a common enemy, because the Fallen are stuck working with them and not because they want to. Some of the marines are subtly corrupted while some are full on spikes everywhere kind. My goal is for for the 500 point Chaos Space Marine warband to look like a ragtag group of soldiers with scavenged vehicles and a beat up armor look due to not having time to fully maintain it. The shoulder trim on all of the models will be color coded for each squad to make it easier for me to see who is who; white is 1st squad, grey is 2nd, and black is 3rd(when I get into more points).

Edit: The Nurgle theme has been put on hold for now.

First up is a picture of my whole force minus one model. What isn’t pictured is the flamethrower carrying marine for the squad on the left. He was built after the picture was taken because I had forgot him.

Close up of my HQ. He’s been assembled from a few various kits and given my first attempt at a green stuff robe. Not yet sure on his base, but he’s not attached to it yet.

A close view of the Icon bearer with a slightly shortened pole and half tabard added on. I need to make a strap for the bolter on his backpack.

This guy was assembled out of spare bits I acquired when I bought the Space Marine Battleforce before I decided to go with Chaos Marines. This is going to be the paint scheme for the Fallen Angels and the mud is fine model railroad ballast with a paintjob. Overall I'm happy with it, but there are a couple things I should have done better with it.

Spoiler:

During a period of fighting on a death world, a Planetary Defense Chimera was knocked out by a hit to the turret and the subsequent ammo fire ruined the hull mounted machine gun. It was abandoned by the withdrawing PDF and left to the elements. A day later, a storm swung by and dropped acid rain in the area, stripping paint off armor and vehicles along with any unprotected creatures. Almost a week later, and after most of the fighting had moved on to another area, a group of weary Chaos Marines happen across the area and began inspecting the knocked out vehicles. They pulled the useless turret off the tank, added a cupola, and infused the vehicle with a Daemon. They have been using it since.

Spoiler:

I do see what you mean about the mud being flat and I'll be looking in to fixing it after I finish up the Rhino.

I plopped this guy on the Chaos Lord's base and decided he's probably a better fit because it looks like he's climbing up a small hill while letting loose with his flamethrower.

As for the Rhino? I thought about doing a green coloring, but came to the conclusion of using a <strike>stolen</strike> recovered Rhino from the Ultramarines With the old markings removed(and the tank weathered). The top is not currently glued to the hull so I can paint the interior.

This guy here is still a work in progress, but I think he might be the last one I'll be painting in black. I don't particularly like painting black and don't look forward to getting out my brushes.

I was skimming around the internet looking at various paint schemes and came across the Pre-Heresy World Eaters scheme. While it might not 'fit' with the black, I decided to try it out on a random guy I had primed. Only thing is he turned out to be one for the next squad to be painted and I think I did it wrong. But I like how he turned out.

Then there's this Ork Nob I partially painted up to try something other than a Space Marine. Still a long way to go on him.

Not sure if Heresy or what.

Limbo wrote:Looking good. At the moment I just like painting and building the models to my liking.

I tried my hand at building a structure the units could move in and I think I like it (Needs paint though).

I picked up the Ork Bommer kit and built it up as a Burna-Bommer. Two of the missiles were attached with wire and the bombs are falling as if the pilot is shooting at a target and hoping to drop his bombs on them. I'll be adding some kind of a smoke effect to the rockets to hide the wire. All of the guns were added on mostly because I think an Ork flying a ground attack aircraft would want as much forward firing dakka as possible, even going so far as to have the gunner swivel the turret forward for the strafing run. But I know it probably doesn't work like that on the table top.

Then there's this guy who was built from a few kits. I placed him on a 50mm wide base to see how big he was compared to a marine, but I don't know if I'll use him for anything other than a shelf display. His arms, the radar thingy, and his upper torso all swivel 360 degrees. The plastic he's molded out of feels really, really, soft.
