Best Way to Label Base Edges

I want to label some of my minis and am wondering if anyone has any experience labelling the edge of bases? I have tried paint (way to delicate for my brute hands) and even a paint pen (the finest is still to thick). Anyone have any advice?

It's a UK based solution, but there must be something similar in the railway modelling people in North America - I use Slater's Plastikard letters and numbers to number the bases of my Blood Bowl players

https://slatersplastikard.com/plastikard/alphabets.php

https://slatersplastikard.com/assets/pdfs/AlphabetFlyer.pdf

I don't have an easy to link pic of that use, but the letters on this fatties sign were the same product - just stuck on with PVA and varnished over.

Best Way to Label Base Edges

Printing custom transfers might be worthwhile (white/colored text on clear film), if you have a lot to label. If only a few, I'd use fine-tipped markers like Sakura Pigma micron pens. On lighter base rims, you can simply write the desired text. On black rims, apply the crude lettering by brush or paint pen, then use the micron to redefine the edges, giving you legible text.
