Eldar fun mini tournament (750 pts)

So I have a mini tournament coming up that I will be bringing 750 points to, I have two lists made up that I want to use both kind of based on a fluff concept, the first is a craft world defense force;

Spiritseer

3 Warlocks

3x 10 Guardians
-Starcannon

Crimson Hunter
-Exarch
-Marksmans Eye

Support Weapon
-D-Cannon

And the other one is a Dire Avenger shrine awakening;

Asurmen

10x Dire Avengers

10x Dire Avengers

8x Dire Avengers

Crimson Hunter

Again, the lists are meant to be more fun then competitive. I don't want to be crushed, but I want to have to try and win. Anyways, advice would be appreciated.

I like the Top List I ran one like that with the old codex, it was pretty cool.

Alough the dire avengers one sounds cool too. I would think making the 8x Dire avengers drop to 5 models and have them joined by asurmen and then swap the crimson hunter for a Falcon they could ride in.

But if you want to keep it, I think its good. Bladestorm from those catapults alone will rip apart terminator squads like nothing.... seriously I ran a corsair rmy and my jet pack corsair squads destroyed abbadons termie retinue in a few turns with that.

Nice to see theyre actually making suriken weaponry cut through armor like butter the way it does in the books lol

I'm holding onto the Hunter mainly because if I run into a flyer or flying monstrous creature I have absolutely 0 chance without some sort of anti-air. I generally use Wave Serpents for that but I don't want to put wave serpents on the table for this game.

Re:Eldar fun mini tournament (750 pts)

If you don't mind me asking, why the Spirit Seer? Just to get the 3 Warlocks? It isn't a bad idea, I'm just curious about that one. Also, why Starcannons? I love Starcannons, but I feel like massed Shuriken Fire is all you need to take down anything 2+. I'd rather put the extra 5 points from the Guardians and into Singing Spears. Give the Warlocks a little ranged punch. Also, I'm not a big fan of Marksman's eye on the Crimson Hunter, but that might just be me. As Crimson Hunter Exarchs are, they are kind of expensive for what I see in my Crimsun Hunter Exarch. That is he (sometimes) survives long enough to shoot enemy flier (which dies or flies off board), then blow up a tank, then die gloriously (usually to massed fire from something diminutive). And I still love him.

Even with my complaints, I think I like the fist list better. I've really been wanting to play around with using Guardian Defenders aggressively and I feel like the first list packs more of a punch, despite the fact that I still think Dire Avengers are the best at kite-ing in the game, I think your first list just packs more of a punch and, if used right, could be used to punch your enemy in the face, then fall back, to lure him into that D-Cannon Range, before countering and moving back up the board with more massed guardians.

Re:Eldar fun mini tournament (750 pts)

I got ya. I'd expect that a tournament with that low of a pts value would not allow flyers, but I guess it's a good call. I'm not a tournament person, just givin ya what i got.

That being said, maybe the guardian list would be what i'd choose. more boots on the field and more suriken shots with d cannon support and the warlocks who could jump out of thise squads and hold off advancing troops for the guardians to high tail it to a vantage point while the hunter does its thing. The spirit seer would support what he sees fit.

Eldar fun mini tournament (750 pts)

Warlocks can't leave squads (Not IC, get attached to the sqaud and they stay there for the game). I decided on star cannons because simply, they are cool. Plus 2 shots of AP2 is more likely to kill 2+ then 3 shots of bladestorm. And yeah, the spirit seer is there to get all 3 warlocks in, basically the warlocks are going to hide with all the Guardians, spiritseer will go hang out with the D-Cannon so I can have a 2+ cover on him in a ruin. where he can still shoot at everything. Few possibilities for adjusting that list are drop one Heavy Weapon, and all the Exarchness off of the Crimson Hunter for a bare aegis so I can basically set up a defensive position for the entire game and hang out. Throw the one unit with no heavy weapon around to contest or capture objectives.

My sales pitch on the DA list is that it's a far more aggresive list comparatively. Guardians will hide all game and kite, where as a DA list is far more willing and able of smashing face a little closer.

Re:Eldar fun mini tournament (750 pts)

Hey, I can't really complain about the costs of Eldar Heavy Weapon Upgrades anymore, that problem has been fixed over the last Eldar Codex I played. I was just curious, thank you for your description.

While the Exarch upgrade for the Crimson Hunter is expensive, one of the bigger problems with Fliers is their movement and how many turns they are useful on the board. Eldar nimbleness helps keep us doing rectangles on the board, so you don't have to worry about running off, as much, but none-the-less I always go with the Exarch upgrade. Downside is the points sink, but you're almost guaranteed to hit everything, and when you're already required to sink a turn in reserves, and possibly not be in a position to hit your target because of flier movement restrictions and threat bubbles, hitting as often as possible is important (at least to me). I'd stick with the Exarch upgrade.

First list with some exceptions,

1) switch star cannons to BL for AT turn 1 (yay first blood).
2) turn D cannons into vibros or weavers, reason being D cannons have 24" range, and the other 2 have 48" so you can camp far away and kill stuff.
3) if you do No.2 then you can now buy a farseer to go with the vibros/weavers.

Don't forget weavers are liker stronger shurkin weapons with blasts, and vibros (in units of 3) are basically lascannons. If you chose to go vibros and not weavers, the guardians can keep starcannons.

I would like to point out that you can only have 1 warlock join a guardian unit. So for your first list, unless the warlocks stay as a council, you have one with the guardians, one with the d cannon, and one running around solo. Drop him and nab something else with the points saved. Honestly, you could at this point turn the d-cannon into a weaver, netting you 25 + 35 (warlock) points, or enough for a full battery of 3 weavers instead. But it's your call there.
