Astra Militarum order question " Get Back In The Fight "

Hey Dakka,

So i was playing a game the other day and came across something that i felt was pretty broken and i just wanted to get some clarity to make sure we were playing the rule correctly.
Also im not complaining at all, i was actually the one playing guard.

If you have an imperial guard blob behind an aegis defense line go to ground for the 2+ cover save.

Than in your ensuing shooting phase you cast "get back in the fight" which states that the unit can shoot and act as normally entirely.

Can they do this every turn? Can the heavy weapons teams still fire normally? Or do they snap?

What is stopping someone from doing this every single turn and have 50 guardsmen have 2+ saves at almost all times?

I understand lots of things ignore cover now days and you can always drop behind or find ways around it, but it just seems rather broke that you could do this every turn and have 50 guys who are essentially un killable...

Or take multiple aegis and blobs...

Also before anyone says you could fail the order i understand that, but with a 5 point box caster its pretty easy to pass.
Im just looking for any clarity on if i am playing this rule incorrectly.

Thanks!

No, that's how it works.

I wouldn't say it's broken really, I mean what good are 50 Guardsmen hiding behind an ADL? That's 5 heavy weapons at most, and otherwise a 24 inch range. Whoo.....

He can't issue orders if he's gone to ground himself or has been removed as a casualty.

Using this tactic also comes at the expense of offense-oriented orders. The units that got back in the fight won't be tank/monster hunting, ignoring cover, precision shooting, or getting extra lasgun shots, and the senior officer is stuck issuing get back in the fight instead of those orders. Besides the obvious risk of failing to work, the tactic carries significant opportunity cost.

Going to ground behind an Aegis line gives a +2 bonus to the cover save, not +1, so there is the 2+ cover save. And there is nothing wrong with giving the order either.

But Maceria and Grendel raise good points, even with a vox it can be failed and you can lose the officer and / or a lot of dudes to all the ignore cover stuff knocking about in the game now. It is not broken, but there are better orders which would help the IG kill the stuff that you are going to groung to avoid.

Good points, thank you I was under the impression that you just order them back into the fight and then also give them "ignores cover" etc on the las cannon teams. I see now that is incorrect.

While we are on the subject what is the most common strategy to keep the CCS alive?
