Models on bases proper facing

Question....

So i was wonder where does it say a model has to be attached on a base in a specific way? i know you have to put them on the base provided but no where can i find where it needs to be X wide in the front.

Here is my example.
I have a cauldron of blood (the old style) and am putting it on the new base 60x100
can i put it so the 100 side is on the front and the 60 is its flank?

same could be said for the demigryphs or skullcrushers.

dont get me wrong, i dont think it should be allowed but there are people who's philosophy is "it doesnt say i can't so.....". i just would like a clear cut ruling somewhere. if not i need to add it to the NOVA Primer

Re:Models on bases proper facing

The issue is that a model's construction is highly inferred but never explicit. For example a Dwarf Lord on Shieldbearers does not state in the rules that it changes the model's base, you have to infer that you are required to find the physical model that the unit in question is being mounted on and do so. You'd have to find a model on shieldbearers (king alrik) and using that as an example, construct your own or use the special character as an unnamed character.

But then there is the further issue after construction: determining which side of the physical model is the 'front'. The 'front' of the model is an artificial term and not dictated by the physical construction. Whilst the 'front' of the model is explained as a term with consequences, it is never stated how you determine which side of the physical model is the front.

That's just an issue with GW rules, they don't really expect you to look into this so much as discuss it with your opponent beforehand, making the player do the legwork instead of the writers.

Some may say that players don't need hand-holding rules to play, but this can have serious consequences game-to-game in different environments if all of your opponents do not come to the same agreement.
