The Possibility of a Continuation to the 40k Fluff Beyond M41

Hello everyone!

Taking a small break from school work, I decided to post something on the forum to let my mind run a little.

Often, we talk about the future in the 40k universe and how wars are being fought for what seems like centuries and there is little to no sight of a victory for the Imperium or its enemies. Few conflicts have been resolved within the last few thousand years, so it leads some players to wonder what will happen to the galaxy whenever (or if ever) the next millennium comes.

Will the Emperor finally die?

Will the 'Nid hive fleets cause more devastation than they already have?

Will the Fallen Primarchs return to lead their armies to the gates of Terra once more?

A simple answer to this is a simple no. While it would be fantastic to witness and better yet, to be part of such new developments in the 40k universe, many in the community (including myself) feel that these kind of advancements to the lore will never be made, or if so, at very small increments spanning over decades. When writers of the original 40k fluff and game designers came up with the extensive background of our beloved tabletop game, they've made sure to leave much of the background to our imaginations. They have claimed before that the 40k fluff is merely a backdrop to the actual game, and that continuation of such fluff would be an entire overhaul of the already established lore to fit the game.
I'm assuming their concern with that is how they would be unable to continue the story much further and with DETAIL without being able to appease all factions of the universe.

I think that the uncertainty of the future and the outcomes of many wars serves to add to the grim and dark aspect of Warhammer 40,000 that would otherwise feel less threatening with resolution. And when resolution does come in the form of updates, Black Library literature, and worldwide campaigns (which we'll be seeing less of as the years go by, if not already) it is very small and insignificant relative to the massive backdrop that is the far future.

Well, enough of my ramblings. What do you guys think about a possibility of continuation to the fluff?
If YOU had the opportunity to have a hand in its inception, what would you like to see?

Cheers,
Captain Ironblood.

Re:The Possibility of a Continuation to the 40k Fluff Beyond M41

M42: Abaddon is driven from Cadia after the Imperial Navy regains control of Cadian airspace. Cadia declared "lost to the Imperium" anyway and is viral bombed killing off what remaining Cadians that were there. Several off world Cadian regiments colonize a new world which is called Arcadia. 13th Black Crusade Tactical Chaos victory, Strategic Chaos defeat.

More and more Necrons awake. Civil war breaks out between the various Necron dynasties as rivals settle old scores and try to fill in the power gap left by the exile of the Silent King.

The Tyranids continue to arrive in huge numbers. The Imperium finally fully mobilizes their populace and authorize the reorganization of the Adeptus Astartes back into the Legiones Astartes to counter this threat. 10 Legions are made with 200,000 Marines each. The Legions are led by the newly awakened Primarch Lion'el Johnson and the freshly returned Primarchs Vulkan, Khan and Russ in a grand council. Those Legions with dead or missing Primarchs are represented by an elected "Grand Master".

The Tau find their empire difficult to administer thanks to their slow interstellar travel. Their fast growth slows to a crawl during the early years of M42. To keep the rapid growth going the Tau begin to excise higher taxes from the colonies which creates dissatisfaction with the Greater Good. Revolts break out with some being successful. Others are put down with frightening brutality.

The Ultima Segmentum is mostly lost to the Imperium. More and more worlds are either killed or fall to anarchy. The Legiones Astartes find themselves being stretched thin by the Tyranids, Necrons and Orks.

Towards the end of M42 the Necrons finally unite under one King and begin a campaign to regain their lost territory. After defeating the Imperium in many pitched battles they establish a new Necron empire in the Ultima Segmentum and in parts of Segmentum Solar. Before the Necrons can attack Terra and destroy the Imperium once and for all their new Empire is set upon by numerous Tyranid Hive Fleets. During the closing years of M42 the Necrons, and indeed the rest of the galaxy, face a new war that would make the Horus Heresy look like child's play: The Great Tyrannic War.
