Good substitute for Brush on GW Ardcoat?

I'm sorry if there is already a posting for this but I'm interested if any one knows of a good brush on substitute for the GW brush on ardcoat? I haven't tried it yet but I think the brush on kind is a good idea just to put on certain areas you want shiny.

I don't mind buying GW pots but I feel like there is probably a more cost efficient version of this.

Thanks - Grandsteam

Liquitex offers a selection of varnishes (Matte, Satin, Gloss, and High Gloss) that are available at the big-name arts & crafts stores. An 8 oz. bottle is $14 and will last you a very, very long time. You might even be able to find it cheaper on websites like Dickblick or Amazon.

Sorry to thread jack, but I could use a recommendation for a good rattle can gloss varnish available in the UK if anyone has any suggestions for that too!

I'll echo Scooty's Liquitex suggestion for the OP, and Vallejo is perfectly adequate too, though not quite as cheap.

I'm quite happy with Vallejo gloss. Granted, I only use it for spot applications (re-glossing specific parts after an overall matte coat), so I'm not terribly concerned with the cost per unit of volume. For general varnishing (under the final matte coat), I use aerosols or, more recently, airbrushed on Pledge Floor Care.

Oh wow! thanks guys ! this is all great help! I'll look into the liquitex and maybe the vallejo gloss.

@ oadie that's pretty much what I plan on doing I like to use matte finish but was thinking about adding the glossy coat to certain areas.

@ azreal13 I don't live in the UK so IDK what you guys have but what I use is Krylon Matte finish but they also have glossy. Its light cover in my opinion. I buy it at walmart for like 1-3$ ( cans last me a long time so cant remember exactly what they cost) Idk if this helps you at all but I tried =)

I use Vallejo gloss and matte varnishes for both brush (when needed) and airbrush, they work well. Can thin with water if needed and can also mix them for a satin varnish.

Unlike the various issues with matte sprays (not matte enough, hazing, frosting...) gloss is normally a straight forward process. Right now, when I am after a rattle can gloss - I generally snag it at the local big box home store. I've used Krylon, Valspar, Liquitex and a few others. None of them would really cause me to say they were crap. They do what they are supposed to do with little problems. B&Q should have a couple different brands, either with the paints or with the wood stains/varnishes.
