Looking for Input - Wave serpent alternatives for a exodite eldar force

Hey all,

(EDIT): Is there a way to make the linked images smaller scale? they are rather maaaahosive, considering there just for reference.
im currently building up a harle exodite eldar force, at the moment ive used plenty of fantasy parts and have got some good conversions on the go.

I need some advice on what to use as an alternate to a waveserpent.

id preferably like a dragonesque model, doesn't need to be GW product. id originally thought of using the high elf dragon lord:

However, I think this model would probably work better as the DE raiders in my allies attachment, as I plan on splitting a raider and taking the front and back ends and mounting them on the dragons back. Im having trouble finding a model that has dimensions that are closer to a waveserpent.

Waveserpent dimensions:
Roughly 6.5" long by 4.5" wide, with the cab on top of this main hull.

^^ problem is that that is quite wide, id need a model with some wings perhaps? I was considering the chaos chimera:
The problem being that its on a 100mm base, which it seems to fit roughly end to end, making it too short at only about 4"

Crimson hunter will be done using the high elf pheonix:

--------------------------------------------
Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.
in my FLGS most players aren't gona be nit picky, but id like to atleast be reasonable about it - plus then they cant complain when im humping LOS cover

Solar

Looking for Input - Wave serpent alternatives for a exodite eldar force

Oi, well I think you might be wandering into some difficult terrain here. It's not just about form factor, is about understand what the models are. Exodites just mean they were the first eldar out before we orgied Slaanesh into existence, it doesn't mean beast riding high elves. Using monstrous creature models for a tank starts pushing my ability to keep things straight. I see an army with a bunch of dragons, chimera, heck maybe cold one knights as jetbikes, I start losing my ability to keep track of what is what, and I play eldar. If someone did this with Grey Knights, using actual Knights, I would be completely lost the entire game.

Maybe your gaming group is totally cool with this and had encyclopedic reference knowledge for all armies on the top of their head, but please consider using vehicle models for tanks. Something you can mount the actual eldar weapons too so we have a common point of reference. I don't know that there are many vehicles in war machine/hordes, but maybe one of the Sci Fi space games? Converted romulan war bird perhaps? There are I believe 4 variant eldar vehicles that use the falcon hull, you've got to have a way to distinguish them. Turret weapon is easy. Trying to remember if it is the dragon or maybe the squiggoth is the wave serpent, oh wait, is that Manticore a Nightspinner or a Falcon... Gets kinda hard.

Re:Looking for Input - Wave serpent alternatives for a exodite eldar force

When I think of Exodite Eldar there is only one force that really comes to mind and it is the one linked below.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/588505.page

I think the more Dinosaur feel works really well. I would suggest using something from the Lizardmen line from GW. Maybe a Stegadon or Bastiladon.

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Lizardmen-Stegadon

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Lizardmen-Bastiladon-with-Ark-of-Sotek

You could take some serpent parts and add them to the back of those model to increase the width a bit. Plus they have nice large area that could fit troops and weapons platforms on.

If you wanted to stick to the bird theme since your Crimson Hunter will be the pheonix maybe take the skycutter and convert it to be more Eldar looking with jems and more futuristic lines.

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Lothern-Skycutter

You could even just replace the whole back part with part or all of a wave serpent and that might look really awesome.

Just some alternatives for you to think about.

Owl

For my Harlequin Wave Serpent I got an Arachnorok Spider, filled in and filed down all the bumps on it's underbelly until it was smooth, and put a trimmed down Vyper jetbike canopy on the front as a cockpit. Intitially I had planned to use the high elf dragon lord as the waveserpent, as it basically looks like a snake and as such is easy to go "the flying serpent is the wave serpent .... the blah is blah...." that way keeping it an easily distinguishable feature.

I planned on buying a wave serpent kit anyway/ and or using parts of the hull to add some extra vehicular look to the models. i think il just have to get the kit and see how i feel. still might simply go with a standard wave serpent anyways. we'll see.
