soul grinder modelling/painting advice.

so this weekend i gave into temptation and bought the awesome looking soul grinder model..which i have big plans to make a sweet diorama with (wait out on that)
however, i have never done a large model before, and i'm confused about the initial modelling, and priming/undercoat stages. for smaller models, i would paint various parts seperately.. (head/arms/weapons etc) then assemble, and tidy up with more layers afterwards, but with this model, with him being so large, i'm going to be using a fair amount of green stuff so ensure any mold lines or gaps are gotten rid of. so my inital thoughts were to assemble the mechanical legs and body, and the torso/arms and undercoat them seperately, but then i will have to use GS over the top of the undercoat. just wondering what you guys do when assembling large models like this.

I found the easiest thing to do was to assemble the lower lower chassis seperately from the upper tosor and arms. Even after painting, I've kept them seperate for storage reasons. The two pieces fit together pretty snugly. I think that will give you enough access to all the parts you need to paint.

Hmmm, both of mine went together quite well. You can green stuff the connection with a little overlap, to form a socket into which the piston will fit. Put a little saliva on the end of the piston, when you push it into the greenstuff, so that it doesn't stick.
