What is a good airbrush/spraygun for doing terrain and large buildings?

I have a Badger Patriot 105, but I'm thinking that with the current cup size, doing a couple of imperial buildings will take forever. Any suggestions?

I'd look to see if you can get a bigger cup for them. Its a siphon feed so it shouldn't be too hard to find. And the cup that it comes with should be plenty to do a building.

The Badger 150 is a siphon feed, is it not?

If that is indeed the one in question, it comes with a 7mL open top cup and a 59mL jar. Either one is definitely large enough to paint an Imperial building. I use a Badger Sotar 20/20 as my primary brush, it has a 2.5mL cup and the smallest needle they offer (around .2mm, maybe smaller) and I have had no problem painting something as large as a Land Raider.

In all reality, painting anything large will take time, even with an airbrush. If you are happy with your airbrush, I wouldn't worry too much about replacing it.

What is a good airbrush/spraygun for doing terrain and large buildings?

For most terrain work, I actually use a Badger 350. I can put pretty much anything through it - nothing to get buggered up and it paints fairly large areas without difficulty.

I premix my colors and keep them in the bottles (pick up extra bottles - they are cheap) - the 2 ounce bottles for most my colors...and 2 ounces goes a pretty long way.

For detailing colors that I won't be laying down as heavy (but not so fine as my pencil style airbrushes allow) I use a Grex Tritium pistol grip brush. It has a 1 ounce cup (smaller ones too) but the pistol grip trigger allows for longer use without fatigue...and when weathering a board full of terrain it does help a good bit.

When I am doing my base coats and priming, I actually use a Devilbliss detail HVLP spray gun. Probably a bit more than most people need - but if you actually do do a lot of terrain and terrain finishing...it cuts the amount of time you need to paint something like 50 or 60 square feet of foam to less than an hour (with a good portion of that being set up and clean up).

You can paint large stuff with an airbrush alone - but they really are not the ideal tool for that job. Smaller paint guns like my Devilbliss or heavier duty airbrushes can cover more area faster than something like a pencil airbrush.

OK, really just inquiring. I'm still getting used to my airbrush.

BTW, my Badger only has the cup on top, but it seems that if I work on one building at a time, it should be fine.

Are you sure you don't have something like a Patriot 105 then instead of the 150? Maybe a 100?

http://www.badgerairbrush.com/Badger_150.asp

The 150 is definitely a siphon - but it looks a good bit like the Model 100 - and many of the parts are interchangeable. If you bought it second hand - they may have taken the back end from a 150 and put it on a 100. The model though is etched on the body of the brush which includes the integral paint cup (or the pick up for the 150).
