Painting Deathwing Terminators

I have just painted my first Deathwing Terminator and I am quite happy with how it turned out, al be it slightly messy in some parts though. I seem to have had a problem though and just want some advice in the future, the colour I am using (GW's Ushabti Bone) does not seem to cover the model well. I have used a black primer as that was all I had to hand and didn't want to buy white primer as I don't usually paint light coloured miniatures, I have been thinning paint like I usually do for any colour but even after 3-4 coats of it it still doesn't appear to have a good covering. Any tips on painting lighter colours like the said one onto black primers so a nice even covering is produced. I have included some images of the model below, please ignore the left shoulder though, I am aware that it is messy and shall be cleaning it up.

hi, nice work you've done on your termintor.

Ideally you would want a lighter undercoat, so white or grey primer, halfords grey primer is ideal. if you dont have other primers to hand then consider applying a few coats of light grey paint before you start base coating the bone, as this will cover better and give you a lighter colour to which cover with bone.

I tend to use an airbrush but using a GW large drybrush or any large flat head brush you can quickly apply a thinned layer of paint and leave it to dry then apply a second coat and so on until you have a solid coat on the whole miniature.

The trick is to stab the miniature, with such a large brush this will cover a large area quickly and not allow the paint too well up in the recesses.

putting your paint onto a palette or other flat surface makes it easier to mix in water to find your consistency, with the above mentioned stabbing technique your paint doesn't need to be too thin simply just having some water in there will do.
