Anyway, I really liked Rise and was pleasantly surprised by it. Andy Serkis is just great at what he does, so I'm looking forward to seeing him again in Dawn.

There are a lot of kick ass movies coming out this summer I can't wait to see, and this is easily in the top 3.

You know, I just never could get into this genre of movies.

"Get your stinkin paws off me, you damned, dirty ape!" Will always be a classic film line, but it's all down hill from there in my book.

The remake Planet of the Apes was so-so, that's why I didn't have the highest hopes for Rise and didn't watch it in the theater. But when I saw it on DVD I was very pleasantly surprised by it and I'm going to see Dawn.

Other than "a talking ape" it really didn't have much to do with the original Planet of the Apes, but they did a good job putting little tributes here and there.

there's talk about a 4 year virus that wiped everything out? That explains how the ape population got so advanced and large and the cities and other places got over ran. But does anyone know what that 4 year virus was/is...? Cause I do not remember it from the last film...

Rewatching the clip, there's some graffiti on the wall which reads "simian flu" and next to it "billion and counting" guess thats the 4 year disease and how many people have died

The same virus that made apes smart killed humans. The second patient was an airplane pilot(It has a latency period where it was catagious but not noticable)
It could have all be avoided is the quarentined patient zero after he was exposed to the virus that wasnt approved for human testing. The sequel would not have even happened if common sense played a role

I know HSM already partially answered this but I want to expand on what he said. Patient zero was the assistant at the lab, the one who refused to put down Caesar. Remember when he got exposed in the lab, and then sneezed in the lab (and there was some visible blood), and then when he bumped into the next door neighbor (the pilot) and sneezed in his face? During the credits they show the flight connecting with flights all over the world.

If you paid attention to the various televisions and stuff during the movie, you may have also noticed that they had done the spacecraft launch just previous to humanity getting the simian flu, which is a reference to previous films.

I'm a pretty big fan of the original Planet of the Apes with Charleton Heston. The first in the series of remakes was okay. Interestingly, the ending to the remake was closer to the ending of the book, but I actually think the ending of the original film is better than the book ending.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was surprisingly good, so I'll probably give this one a try too.

The original Check Heston film is one of my favorite films of all time, though the sequels got progressively more and more ludicrous.

Interestingly according the the documentary that came with the 5 film boxed set each sequel got a reduced budget and it really showed by the last film. That's curiously at odds with films today where sequels to successful films normally get their budgets inflated.

I actually preferred the Mark Wahlberg version over the CH one. I watched them back-to-back. The James Franco one was superior to both though. Really looking forward to this.

I understand that the Marky Mark version is closer to the novel. I don't know for sure because I've never seen the film. Charlton Heston's first film is the definitive Planet of the Apes experience for me.

Closely followed by this song, then the novel.

I honestly thought Rise was a steaming pile of monkey poo, another example of Hollywood flogging dead horses to make up for a lack of creativity.

The new one was ok.

I agree wholeheartedly. Nobody should be sexy with an ape mask and a fursuit on, but danged if she wasn't more attractive than that vapid blonde they got for the token human female role.

I actually really loved Tim Burton's iteration with Mark Wahlberg. Thought it was very well done and an excellent film. Dawn was okay. I didn't particularly like or dislike it, I was just sort of indifferent. The new one I have mixed feelings about because watching apes riding horseback with guns was really jarring, it was hard not to laugh during the previews. I'll probably see it though.
