SM 1000 Drop Pod List

Hello. I am getting back into the hobby and I have a lot of assorted models that I'd like to try to get a cohesive list out of. There's a lot of strange, less-than-optimal decisions that went into purchasing this array of models, but I'd like to try to squeeze as much use out of them as possible.

I play regularly against Chaos Space Marines, Tau (Farsight w/ Riptide spam), Demons, and Dark Angels.

Please help me make a decent list out of these models!

1x Captain (Power Armor, Chainsword, Combi-Flamer)

49x Space Marine (Boltgun)
5x Space Marine (Plasma Cannon)
4x Space Marine (Missile Launcher)
3x Space Marine (Flamer)
2x Space Marine (Multi-Melta)
1x Space Marine (Plasmagun)
1x Space Marine (Boltgun, Signum)
1x Space Marine (Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Melta Bombs)
1x Space Marine (Heavy Bolter)
1x Space Marine (Lascannon)
1x Space Marine (Plasma Pistol, Power Fist)

4x Terminator (Storm Bolter, Power Fist)
1x Terminator Captain (Storm Bolter, Power Sword)

1x Rhino/Razorback (all options)

6x Drop Pod (Storm Bolter)

1x Storm Talon (all options magnetized except TL Las)

1x Dreadnought (Multi-Melta, CCW w/ Storm Bolter)
1x Dreadnought (Assault Cannon, CCW w/ Heavy Flamer)

Edit: Can't believe I forgot:

9x Sternguard (Bolter)
1x Sternguard (Heavy Bolter)

SM 1000 Drop Pod List

Well for your heavy support slot: a squad of devs will use up the signum guy and I prefer one las cannon and 3 rocket, but 4 rocket is not bad in my opinion. It's debatable.

I also drop an assault cannon/heavy flamer dread in like every game I play (because its just the models I have) and I like him. You can flame troops in cover, and if by some strange reason he lives to see the next turn, then you can assault a vehicles or else keep going to town on light infantry.

Other than that, I don't really play a drop-pod list so I don't know specifics other than I would imagine you will need combi meltas in there somewhere.

Also, I would recommend rhino over razorback most days of the week. They're too expensive for such a light chassis.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh yeah, the storm talon is awesome with the skyhammer missiles. I never run any other set up.

SM 1000 Drop Pod List

If you want to run them strictly WYSIWYG, then you could do something like this:

Terminator Captain
Default load-out (Power Sword)

Sternguards 8x
Drop pod, 2 heavy flamers (use two of your regular flamer marines)

Dreadnought
Drop Pod, Multimelta and Power Fist

Tactical Squad 10x
Drop Pod, Multimelta

Tactical Squad 10x
Drop Pod, Multimelta

Stormtalon
Skyhammer Missles, TL Assault Cannon

The idea here is to bring in your Dreadnought, Sternguards and Captain in on the first wave of drop pods, and cause as much damage to the enemy as possible. The second wave will bring your troops, who will hunker down on objectives.

Another approach would be to put points into devastator squads (either 4 Missile Launchers or 4 Plasma Cannons), and then get 3 squads of marines in drop pods. With that setup, you would rely on your devastators and your Stormtalon to provide fire support for your troops down range.

Or... you have enough models, you could just spam tactical squads in drop pods. Get 5 tactical squads in 5 drop pods, stick a captain inside, and let em rip. 50 marines is a lot to kill in a 1000 point game.

Whatever you do, you're going to have a rough time against Monstrous Creatures (Riptides, Daemon Princes). If you plan on expanding your army more, and you mean for it to be competitive, you'll need to get more high-strength, low-ap weapons to deal with them. That means marines with Meltaguns/Plasma Guns/Lascannons, Bikes with grav guns, Hammernators, Predators/Vindicators, etc. You might also want to track down a storm shield bit to glue onto your captain - a Shield Eternal will go a long ways towards keeping him alive. Having 6 drop pods gives you the main prerequisites for doing a melta drop list using the Salamander's character Vulkan. But with your current models, I would use Imperial Fists chapter tactics - it will buff your tactical and devastator squads.

I'll process all of this info and churn out a list from it. Thanks so much!

I found a chapter tactics from Forgeworld for this list, what do you think?

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/F/FWchaptertactics.pdf

Orbital Wave Attack: Any unit in the detachment arriving via
Deep Strike may re-roll any Reserve roll of 1 if its controlling
player wishes.

Hail of Destruction: Once per game, the player may declare
the use of this ability and its effects last from the start of the
controlling player’s Shooting phase until the start of their next
Shooting phase.
