...Still Top Dog

**First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong sub-forum. (MODS feel free to move it to the correct section.)

I've been giving the plight of Games Workshop and some of the choices they made as of late some thought.

But with all of the mistakes business, pricing & access wise. Warhammer 40k is still remains the biggest tablet-top game of-all-times in terms of popularity, scale, profitability & the amounts of players and fans it attracts.

Is it the background story? Models, amount of armies or sheer amounts of customization you can choose from; or is it something else?

Privateer Press, Fantasy Flight Games...and all the up-and-comers still have a lot of work to do.

Do you see this changing?

...Still Top Dog

FFG has a license from GW to produce 40K-related materials, namely four different (but related) RPGs, so I don't really see them in direct competition.

GW enjoys its market-dominance for basically being first on the scene. It's got a very long history and presence in the market, and given that it's such an investment of time and money to get involved in, a lot of people stick with it over the course of many years.

There's also the fact that, despite the fact that its setting is cobbled together from a dozen or more other sources, it strikes a good balance of fantasy and dystopian science-fiction to feel unique, so its setting definitely has a lot going for it.

EDIT: Actually, make that five 40K RPGs.
