2500 Point Raven Guard vs Dark Eldar Turn 1

This was a 2,500 Pt game of with Raven Guard composed of Shrike and a Mastery Level 2 Librarian in Terminator Armour with a Storm Shield. The rest of my army was composed of 10 Vanguard Veteran Squad with Jet Packs, a squad of three Centurions with Siege Drills and meltaguns (the sergeant had Flame-throwers), a Dreadnought with Las-cannon and Missile Pod, a 10 Marine Devastator Squad with 4 Missile Launchers with Flak missiles, 2 Tactical Marine Squads with a Heavy Bolter and Plasma Gun, a bike squad with 5 bikes and 1 attack bike with a Multimelta and finally 2 Storm Talon's with a Storm Raven carrying a Sternguard Squad.

My Opponent (Leonard) was using Vect in his barge with Lady Malleus. Lelith with Incubi and an Archon in a Raider, 4 more Raiders with 2 squads of Kabalite Warriors and 2 Squads , a squad of 3 Talos pain engines, 3 Reavers and 2 Void Bombers and 1 Razorwing fighter.

The mission was Cloak and Dagger with a Vanguard assault setup.

Leonard won first turn and so setup first with all of his vehicles positioned in the corner in a nice tight group with a large cathedral blocking line of sight to his army.

Leonard rolled for his Tactical Objectives (T.O.s) and got Dominate, Annihilate, & Capture Objective 3 with the warlord trait Master of Ambush (not a good trait when all of your squads are mounted in a vehicle.)

I rolled a Gate of Infinity & Sanctuary for my Sanctum Powers and took Banishment for my Librarian. My warlord trait was Tactical Genius allowing me to throw away 2 T.O.'s each turn. I rolled Overwhelming Firepower, Kingslayer, & Domination for my T.O.s.

I spread my army out along the diagonal line to take advantage of my pregame scout moves Chapter tactic to scout units not in bulky or very bulky armor, and Infiltrated Shrike with the Widowmakers Vanguard onto objective 3 in no man's land which thankfully was not visible by any of Leon's models since he put all of his stuff behind that large and imposing Cathedral.

Top of Turn 1

I rolled a 6 to seize the initiative, I then moved tactical squad Gold onto objective number 2 in the center of the table. Objective 4 was captured by Devastator Squad Recluse. Tactical Squad Silver reached objective 1 which was positioned in my starting quadrant while the bikes raced across the battlefield grabbing objective 5.

With movement completed the Librarian received the power of 5 warp charges. Two charges were used to cast sanctuary without feeling the draining effects of the warp. He then pushed himself even further by utilizing 2 more charges to open a Gate into the enemy lines and bringing with him the Centurions to grab objective 6 which was just 4 inches from Vect's command barge. With power still radiating through his body the Librarian charged his Force Stave preparing for the coming fight.

The Dais then took fire from the Centurion’s melta-guns. The Dais failed its 5 up invulnerable save and the barge was destroyed on a penetrating roll of 5. 8 Warriors took wounds and only three failed to evacuate the hulking wreckage. The Centurion sergeant using split fire torched two raiders that were adjacent to Vect’s Dais of Destruction causing 1 hull point to one of the Raiders and wounding 3 warriors that were in the crater created by the explosion of Vect’s barge.

With my Domination Objective secured by the end of my turn I rolled for D3+3 Victory points, receiving as a reward a roll of a 5 and earning 6 VP’s. We then rolled for Mysterious Objectives. Shrike ordered his the Widowmakers Vanguard not to touch the contraption that sat before them as it was booby-trapped. The Centurions were pleasantly surprised to find that they uncovered a gravity wave generator. Silver Squad found nothing of any great note but took it upon themselves to guard it lest it be useful to the enemy. Tactical squad Gold found a radar system slowly coming to life when the machine spirit was awakened as did Dev Squad Recluse. The bikes were not as fortunate as Shrike had been. The IED they claimed put 2 of their comrades out of commission.

Bottom of turn 1

With Vect sufficiently humbled by the surprise incursion of four Marines in his battle-lines he ordered Lady Lelith to search out their leader and bring back his head. She took with her two Raiders, 1 filled with Incubi and the other full of Trueborn ready to avenge their fallen brethren.

In the meantime Vect ordered all available units to destroy the newcomers which they did with much abandonment. The centurions were felled and only the Librarian was left standing. Vect then ordered a charge on the lone sentinel choosing to take him on in a hand to hand challenge. The Librarian proved to be stronger than Vect believed possible and suffered only one minor wound under the relentless assault before landing 2 blows on the Marshal of the Dark Eldar. Vect suffering from one wound then fell from battle as the Librarians psychicly charged staff found its mark on Vect's skull. With the seeds of descent sewn among the surviving members of Vect's squad fled before the Librarian and, not even the presence Lady Malleux could rally the unit into making a stand.

Lelith, however, proved much more effective as her Raider and its escort opened up with dark lance into Captain Shrikes. While the Vanguard pulled their Storm Shields in tight to protect their commander it proved too powerful a weapon and 2 of the men were quickly felled by the blazing beams. The Trueborn then fired into the beleaguered squad and reduced their number 3, but Shrike proved to be stout of heart in his resolve and ordered his men to stand fast. They would not give up their hill. Lelith charged with her Incubi through a hail of fire at the stalwart veterans as gravity pistols failed to find their mark on the quick footed dark ones. Shrike ordered that the nearly naked Hesperaux was his alone and he attempted to land blows on his mark. She deftly dodged from his claws receiving only a minor scratch which barely slowed her progress as she landed two fatal wounds on Shrike which he could not ignore. His men fought valiantly as the incubi charged among them each losing 2 of their number and drawing the combat to a close. Then a fallen warrior jostled the sabotaged objective setting it off and inflicting 3 more wounds on the incubi while only catching 1 unsuspecting Marine off guard. Lelith being of fearless resolve only laughed in the face of Fate.

Turn 1 ended with each of claiming Slay the Warlord.

I had 4 victory points for the Dais of Destruction, The Raider, The squad that retreated of the table taking Lady Malleux with it, and Vect's fallen remains. Plus an additional 6 points for completing a T.O., and 1 point each for Slay the Warlord and First Blood, for a total of 13 points.

Leonard had 3 points. 1 for the Centurion Squad, 1 Shrike, and 1 for Slay the Warlord.

Leonard surrenderred at that Point offerring a hardy handshake.

The New Edition certainly does play much faster
