Hello from Rochester, NY!

Hi Dakka!

I've lurked here for quite a while, and finally decided to get an account. My buddies got me into 40K two years ago, and now I'm far more addicted than they are. I'm from Rochester, NY (PM me if you wanna get together!). I play Tyranids, and have about 2000 points of the buggers. I'm also looking to start a Dark Eldar army in the near future.

My Tyranids are Splinter Fleet Huggormr. Their fluff is that they were once a small scouting party from Hive Fleet Jormungandr. Their bioship was shot down while investigating a small Imperial mining colony on a desert world. The colony's small but competent detachment of Astra Militarum was too much for the scouts to overrun immediately, so they hid the damaged bioship in caverns beneath the planet's surface and waited. During the wait, they evolved skin the color of sand, so as to better evade the colony's patrols. Eventually, they managed to establish a genestealer cult in the colony's populace. Once the cult grew large enough, the Tyranids emerged and destroyed the colony, feeding their biomass to their damaged bioship. The ship regenerated just enough for intrasystem travel, and the Tyranids flew to the planet's jungle moon, which was vibrant with flora and fauna. After consuming all biomass on the moon, the Tyranids grew in number, and their bioship, while still extremely small by hive fleet standards, was once again fit for interstellar flight. Since then, they have been roaming the outer fringes of the Ultima Segmentum, preying on small colonies and growing in number. Just recently they have grown large enough for the Imperium to classify them as an official splinter fleet, dubbing them Splinter Fleet Huggormr. This name stems from their origins: Jormungandr was the Midgard Serpent from ancient Norse mythology on Terra, and Huggormr was the Norse word for adder. Thus, it makes sense that the children of Jormungandr would be snakes as well, albeit far less gargantuan and terrifying.

I will post pictures of my army in the gallery soon. Only about half is painted, but I'm working studiously on the rest in my limited free time. I readily admit that I am not the greatest painter in the world, but I do think my bugs look nice. They're certainly painted to a good tabletop standard, but they won't be winning any competitions.

I'm glad to have finally joined the Dakka community, and I look forward to my time here.

PS - Why is the only Tyranid icon? A hive tyrant icon would be great, and thanks to the spike on its forehead, very recognizable.

Knightley wrote:Welcome to Dakka

Thanks, cheers.
