Da Great Waaagh!

Got to say that I like the idea that Ghazzy's been trying to Escalate into a galaxy wide Waaagh! Has this idea been in previous fluff before?

Definitely liked the story of how Ghaz communed with Gork and Mork via Weirdboy head explosions. That was pretty sweet.

Re:Da Great Waaagh!

Nope, this is new (well kinda--see below)

I'm not very happy about it because of several reasons:

1) ANOTHER Apocalyptic end time scenario. I don't dislike the idea of the Great Waaagh, but seriously, another impossibly vast, implacable threat at 999 M41? So, we've got the 13th Black Crusade, the Tyranid invasions, and the Necron Uprising, and the Great Waaagh! all happening at the same time? I like all of these, but it's STUPID to have four major threats all active at the same point. It diminishes any of them.

2) Some previous fluff suggested that Eldrad manipulated the bolter round in Ghaz's head (the incident, if not the bullet) to make Ghaz think that he was the prophet---in order to weaken Eldar enemies and strengthen Eldar positions. I liked this idea much more than Ghaz actually being the prophet of the Waaagh! Technically, it's still actually possible...

3) I don't like when the game universe itself nominates a Mary Sue. I didn't like it with Fantasy and Valten, and I don't like it now. There's enough plot armor already without the game creators explicitly layering plot armor on somebody. Let Ghaz be important because of his actions, not because of his claims (and supernatural evidence of his claims).

4) What about Ragnarork? I liked this much better (it's funnier). Orks used to believe in Ragnarork, the ultimate big battle, where the universe would be destroyed by the orks. Basically, same thing, but I liked that better than the Great Waaaagh!

I don't have a problem with any of the stuff that happens with Ghaz. I just don't like the way it's packaged as "Here's how the orks are the biggest threat to the galaxy" when GW seems to be doing that with Orks, Tyranids, Necrons, Daemons, and CSM, too. You don't have 5 "biggest threats".

The way I see it is this: The Necrons are waking up, but aren't really out and about yet. The tyranids primary body has yet to reach the galaxy, so for now they are streaming in at a controlled rate. The Great Waaagh! is trying to get up and running but there's no telling of Ghazzy will actually succeed. Daemons and CSM are the same threat, they're working together. And it's Abbadon who's letting all of chaos know to pull out all the stops for New Year's at the same time. It's more than just a Black Crusade. All of the renegade astartes and daemons know what's about to go down, and everyone wants to get in on it. The biggest threat is Chaos, and the rest is just hot air.

Da Great Waaagh!

I definitely have a sore spot when I hear the words Prophecy and Destiny surrounding a character.

I don't consider Ghaz a Mary Sue. He does learn from his mistakes a bit too well for an Ork. Considering Hades Hive caused him so much grief in the Second War that he decided to nuke it from orbit with an asteroid in the Third.

Like the sound of Ragnaork better than Da Great Waaagh!

It also saddens me that the Nauts are wrapped up in it too. It can't be that meks just thought hey let's build giant mechs that we could have Nobs and Meks pilot without encasing them in it for eternity. They made them as part of visions involving the Great Waaagh.
