Hello All,

So after years of hanging around WHFB and 40K and hardly playing at all I have decided to make a concerted effort to get an army together and play. Of the two armies I like I've decided to focus on the High Elves first, over Imperial Guard, and have a fair number of models, some of them fairly old and shockingly painted... However nothing a long scrub with fairy power spray won't fix. I'm going to get 1000 points together as a first step and now have all of the models for that, even if they arn't assembled or painted yet.

In terms of theme I've always liked the sword masters, and now the loremaster, so will be building a mildly Sapherianly themed army. It will include a Sisters of Avalon unit, and here I can't decide whether to just include them vanilla or to try and do something with the shadow warriors bodies so they could some kind of (male, armoured) special Sapherian magic archers. Thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Loremaster: with Channelling staff - 245

The eagle upgrades are a waste IMHO. Also, do not take these as a unit. They are much, much better individually. Your BSB lacks any real punch in CC so I would definitely look at changing his kit to get something that will help the SHs not hit like a wet sponge (which they usually do). Long term I'd run the loremaster with ogre blade enchanted shield tal of preservation

The bsb with armor of destiny

The mage with book talisman of endurance

I swear by a frostheart phoenix, I always run one in most of my battles if I can. It can get better stats via winds of magic, and passes out -1 str and ASL when in melee contact with enemy with same stats as a dragon but cheaper.

But then again, this is my own opinion.

Thanks everyone for responding, I've been away from the internet for a week (getting married as it happens).

I'll have a think about the suggestions and will repost something once I've done so. The original idea was a magic and missile list with based around Saphery, but may well modify that. The other option I'd thought about was Avalon based army, maybe using some wood elf models, but that may be a bit more work modelling wise...

So after a bit thinking here is a revised list. I've incorporated some of the suggestions, others I quite like (the phoenix) and would include in another list.

Level 4 Archmage: with Book of Hoeth and talisman of protection - 290 pts

Hero:

Noble: as BSB with Heavy Armour, talisman of preservation and shield - 146 pts

Core:

20 archers: with musician - 210 pts

20 archers: with musician - 210 pts

5 reavers: with spears, bows and musician - 105 pts

5 reavers: with spears, bows and musician - 105 pts

Special:

31 Swordmasters: with full command and banner of the World Dragon (Loremaster here) - 483 pts

10 Phoenix Guard: with full command (BSB and Archmage here) - 180 pts

Rare:

5 Sisters of Avalon - 70 pts

4 Bolt Throwers - 280 pts

1 Great Eagle - 50 pts

1 Great Eagle - 50 pts

Total: 2499

Any thoughts on whether this is a bit more durable and fits the theme of shooting and magic, also thoughts on the sisters of A as male sapherian magic archers.
