2.000 Points Pure Grey Knights + Imperial Knight

I'm trying to make a ne new list for 7th edition and I'm not quite sure/set on a few units. Remember this list is not supposed to be supercompetetive and I like the Idea behind the list:

HQ:
Draigo
Coteaz

Elite:
10x Purifiers, 4 Psycannons, 6x Halberds, psybolt with 2x5 in 2 Rhinos

Troops:
5x Paladin, 2xPsycannon,2x Hammer, 3x Halberd

5x Paladin, 2xIncinerators,2x Hammers, 3x Halberd

Not quite sure if I can combat squad a 10 man unit and give the second group 5 Halbers and the first group 4x Hammers.

FA:
Stormraven, Psybolt, TL MM, TL Ac, and Hurrican bolters

Allied Detachement
Knight Errant

=1992 Points

Idea is:
Draigo Cotaez and 5 pala with psycannon footslog and form mini deathstar. 5 Pala with Incinerators sit in Raven or deepstrike for CC punishment and 2 Rhinos with purifiers for Hordes and that Knight doesnt get tarpited. Imperial knight for anti Armor.

Problem:
I'm not quite sure about Draigo and Inquisitor. Maybe Lib with GM may be better?
Also not quite Sure about Stormraven and those 5 CC Palas. Just fear without a stormraven I won't have any AntiAir, though I could take nearly 2 Psylfedreads for that price and I just don't know what I could take for those 5 Palas, since I already payed the Draigotax. Maybe a Dreadknight? Or Interceptors?

Would be happy about any advice.

Regards.

You can't combat squad and still get objective secured. ,personally, I don't understand your HQ. it uses up a quarter of your army but doesn't add anything. Coteaz is there for the cheapest HW or to open scoring henchmen. Dragon is there to open paladins to score. I'd drop drago and get normal terminators for deepstrking or flying in or whatever. Or take some cheap PAGK as a second troop and combat squad the terminators into objective holder and double Psycannon unit. The more scoring the better

Re:2.000 Points Pure Grey Knights + Imperial Knight

Thanks, for clearing that up. I always get confused with the combat squatting. Well, the Idea behind it was for draigo to tank high strength weapons. Also him and coteaz, being lvl2 Psyker, I would have given one of them Sanctic to fish for Sanctuary or Gate and one of them to roll on Telepathy for psychic shriek and chance of invisibility. Coteaz was picked, cause he's cheap.
Well given your post I put some thought into it:

HQ:

Undecided

Elite:

10x Purifiers, 4xPsycannons,6xHalberds, Psybolt, 2xRhinos

Troops:

5x Terminator, 1 x Psycannon, 2x Hammer, 3xHalberds

5x Terminator, 1 x Psycannon, 2x Hammer, 3xHalberds

Allied Detachment:

Knight Errant

This would leave me 788 Points to fill up. I'd need a HQ to go with one of the Termi squads (The other one deepstrikes), here I'm torn between a GM to give objective contesting/scout or a Librarian for rolling on Sanctic or Telepathy (both with servsoskulls for deepstriking 2 termie squad). Also any Ideas how to fill up the rest of points? If I pick GM I could do with a Landrider for the GM+5Termie Squad? That would leave me with about 328 which I could fill with PAGK +Razorback or Psyflemen. Pagk+Razorbacks would probably be better for scoring, where as the Psyfledread probably better vs Air.... Any suggestions. Btw. Thanks for taking the time.

buckero0 wrote:
You can't combat squad and still get objective secured.

What? You can absolutely combat squad and still get objective secure. All combat squads do is allow you to split a 10man unit into 2 5man units during deployment. The 2 5mans can have any combination of models from the 10man (so yes you can put all your hammers in 1 unit) Note that the requirement for 2 Troop choices in a battleforged list must be met before deployment and thus before using combat squads. So a single 10man unit of paladins will need another Troops choice to be a legal battleforged list. Perhaps that is where the confusion is?

You could run the classic Draigo Deathstar with 10 paladins, Draigo and Coteaz all walking around in 1 unit, denying a large area of the board. The Purifiers can stay as they are for hordes. For you second troop you could take a lone paladin that will deepstrike in or ride in the Stormraven for grabbing an objective while the Knight Errant does whatever Knight Errants do... kill stuff.

2.000 Points Pure Grey Knights + Imperial Knight

Honestly, for a Deep Striking Terminator squad, no one beats Mordrak and his Ghost Knights with a Libby for support. Not only do you get to put him where you want without scatter but the Ghost Knights come with Stealth and if you take a Libby with Telepath and boost him up to a level 3, getting Shroud and Invisibilty make that hard to kill. I have done this and it wrecks havoc where ever they are placed. The problem is that with Mordrak is 200, 5 Ghost Knights is 400 and the lvl Libby is 200 making that squad 600 points alone. Downside to the Ghost Knights is no psy ammo or psycannons but honestly, they don't need it. Also to do the Alpha strike, it has to be turn one.

Doing that though will allow you to do what I do with my GKSS or Terminators and DS all of them 2nd turn. I also run that combo with a shunting list that contains Interceptors and DKs but I also run the Imperial Knight as well. The combination is gravy. The Errant can give you anti-armor but the Paladin isn't bad for taking out vehicles either and the Paladin can better deal with horde armies.

2.000 Points Pure Grey Knights + Imperial Knight

@Zimko Yes I knew that. I'm more confused with filling the troop slots. If I take a 10 man unit and combat squad it, does it count as filling up one slot or 2? Yeah I could run the classic, and I have. It actually works quite well against most list on a non-competitive level, except guards and Tau just utterly destroy them. That's why I had the idea of splitting them up in one minideathstar and one 5 man unit. I also thought about cutting the second squad, but that would make me feel silly for picking draigo since he's point cost is so high.
The other problem is the Stormraven. If he comes on after the enemy flyer he usually does really well, but the other way around he gets destroyed. I find AV12 quite low for 205 points. Though if I leave him out, Grey Knight have very little antiair, against nasty necron lists/chaos and so on...
So im really undecided and opened up this thread and made a second list to get some Ideas from people who may or may not be more experienced than me.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
@Envihon
that sounds interesting. How do you keep Mordrak safe? If he dies don't the other 400 Points just vanish into thin air?
Also how do you cope with Air then?

Thanks for contributing

Ah I see. Well to your question, no a 10man that uses the combat squad rule does not count as filling 2 slots.

As for the Stormraven, there is not a single flier in the game (other than in escalation possibly) that has higher armor than 12/12/12. It's just the downside to being a flier. I personally prefer the LRC in a list that isn't focused on Deep Striking due to the fact that it will be on the board with the rest of your army on turn 1. Not only does it load up ground threats when paired with the Errant, but it also provides needed warp charges to cast invisibility if you happen to roll it. The Stormraven won't give you warp charges until it arrives. I have found that you don't really need AA in 7th, especially since the nerf to FMC where you get a turn to shoot them before they can land and assault.

I've also found Purifiers to be decent at attacking fliers with their nova power. Most opponents don't yet realize that their fliers are vulnerable to them and will set themselves up for it.

Being lvl 3 you have a great chance of getting either Shroud or Invisibility and the great thing about the Ghost Knights is even if you just get Shroud, the Ghost Knights have a +1 Stealh giving you a +3 in total as the two combine so always make sure that the Ghost Knights are in the front to tank all the incoming fire from Mordrak and the Librarian. Trust, when you get Invisibility and they are in your opponent's backfield, they take notice. That makes the Alpha Strike way more lethal than usual. Psychic Shriek from Telepathy as well is a great preemptive strike before a charge as well, allowing you to finish off the unit in CC.
