This will give me 8 marker lights hitting on 2+ and can light up two different targets.
The riptide and hammerhead are to just sit back and take advantage of the markerlights when needed.
The firewarriors will sit just in front ready to jump out to capture objectives.
The piranhas will either blast along to objectives dropping drones off to capture them and / or flank around the side taking out armour and just generally causing a bit of havoc.

new to tau. 1000 point tau army list. any suggestions?

First of all, Welcome to the Empire.

Mark'O can be a good build for a Commander, but I suggest changing it slightly. First of, you don't really need to have two at this point level(probably not at all). I would drop one of the Mark'O teams and give the other two marker drones, so you would have a Commander with 6 Marker drones. Remember that drones purchased as an upgrade are cheaper than in a unit. As for his weapons, mixing weapons on one suit is really a thing of the past. Now that we can have two of the same weapon on one suit, we can have suits specialized for one purpose. There aren't really any targets that both the MP and the PR are good against. I suggest running him with two Missile Pods since it has the same range as the Markerlights, so you can keep your distance.

As for your troops, 2x6 Firewarriors really isn't enough. They aren't that hardy and troops are important for capturing objectives. Firewarriors have a surprisingly large damage output, especially when supported by an Ethereal and Markerlights. At this point level I would probably go with 2 units of 10 or 12 Firewarriors.

Speaking of Ethereals, I highly recommend getting one. They are a massive force multiplier with Leadership buffs for your whole army and the triple tap rapid fire ability. Two units of Firewarriors firing three shots each into the enemy has turned the tables for me in many a game.

Your Riptide looks good, I personally don't usually take the Stim Injector, but some people swear by them. It is priced incorrectly though, note that the stim injector costs more on a Riptide. This guy should be 225pts.

The great thing about Piranhas is that they're dirt cheap. Thus, it's usually best to either run them vanilla or with a Fusion Blaster. For the price of the Disruption Pods, you could get another Piranha. Best drop them. Also, a unit composed of only Drones can't capture objectives, have a look at the drone rules in the Codex.

Make sure you run your Hammerhead with SMS, it costs the same and is superior in every way to the other options. Also try to find the 1 point for a Blacksun Filter so you can ignore Nightfighting.

I hope I gave you some things to think about.
I'd love to see the next iteration of this.

It's a good looking list at the 1000pts it should do well if you can try to give your commanders target lock so he can attack a unit different to the marklights and a fun anti mob build is commander with air burst frag projector with target lock and drone controller as he won't need line of sight and the large blast will stop cc units stopping you using your marklights

Thanks for the advise. I will re-think my list and see what I can come up with then let you know. I've got stealth suits aswell. Are they worth investing some points into them? Also would crisis suits be better than the piranhas?

Cheers

James

new to tau. 1000 point tau army list. any suggestions?

Stealth suits can be quite good, as they are hard to kill and have good anti-infantry fire power. They also offer interesting tactical options with Infiltrate and Outflank.
However, if you have a lot of Firewarriors, you should be set for anti-infantry, as mass pulse rifle fire makes mincemeat of most infantry.
At this point level they could be very good, as they will be more difficult to counter effectively.

As for Crisis vs. Piranhas, it really depends which tactical niche you have to fill. Piranhas are great at grabbing objectives and laying down powerful anti-infantry fire, while Crisis suits can be kitted out to deal with heavy infantry or vehicles better than Piranhas. The following is quite a good build for a Crisis Team, good against Heavy Infantry and Vehicles at the same time:

Crisis Shas'ui (2x Plasma Rifle)
Crisis Shas'ui (2x Plasma Rifle)
Crisis Shas'ui (2x Fusion Blaster, Target Lock)
175pts

Re:new to tau. 1000 point tau army list. any suggestions?

Neuroweb Jammer can only be taken once, unfortunately. I would abuse the hell out of it if it could be taken multiple times though so it is probably for the best.

To be honest the blacksun filter on the Hammerhead is probably useless unless you know for a fact that you are going to be playing with night fight rules, otherwise
it isn't relevant enough to justify the points. Submunitions are almost a must have, they make the Hammerhead far more flexible in what it can do and make it more
useful as a result.

Otherwise though it's a pretty good list overall. More or less the kind of thing I would run at 1000 points. If you built the Skyray turret as well then it could actually be worth
taking the Skyray over the Hammerhead for AA and anti MC duty. But if you play people that have more armour than monsters stick with the hammerhead.

You can't justify spending ONE point to ignore something that happens in half of games? I always take BSF on my Hammerheads. Denying stealth for your enemy is worth the 50% of games that it does nothing.

As others have said, you can only take one Neuroweb System Jammer, and then only on a suit that is at least a Shas'vre. Best leave it off.

Apart from that, looks pretty good, though I would still try to find points for an Ethereal.

Ahh didn't realize about the neuroweb jammer. Thats a shame. The hammerhead is to be run with an ion cannon Or do you think the rail gun is the better option with submunition rounds. Might even change it for a skyray if it's better. Whats the best way of slotting an etheral in the list would you say? Ive also got farsight but don't see how he is worth it.

Cheers

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ahh didn't realize about the neuroweb jammer.
You're probably better off with the Railgun w/ Submunitions. You have enough S7 shooting to deal with light vehicles and the Riptide and Crises can make short work of heavy infantry, but you could use something more to deal with high AV.
By getting rid of the NSJs(you can't take them there anyway), BSF on the Hammerhead, a Piranha and one Fire Warrior, you can free up points for the Railgun and an Ethereal.

Farsight can be very good, but he really has to be in a list built around his use, so that's not really relevant for this list.

By the way, your Commander should cost 147pts.
