I'm a little dubious about Horus exterminating the human race entirely though; humanity just doesn't have the genocidal thoroughness of the Necrons or Tyranids.

The most likely "finish" for humanity in this situation would be Horus dealing extreme damage, and then the Eldar stepping in to mop up the rest.

(Aside, in fact the Cabal's plan makes a lot more sense if you think of it as a plot by some extremist Eldar to use Chaos to destroy humanity, leaving the stage clear for the Eldar to reclaim their galaxy. Not all Eldar agree with the idea though because Chaos is so dangerous, and this is why Eldrad steps in to try and stop the "Cabal".)



If it had somehow been successful and humanity was completely eliminated then it is possible that some other xenos race may have risen to prominence. The Tau? Something similar? We just don't know.

In all probability the galaxy would have been filled with a million small-scale wars between xenos races trying to expand... until the Tyranids arrive.
