Imperial Knight, paint then build - how much?

So I'm halfway through building my Knight Titan, I haven't glued on the leg/thigh/knee covers, and I plan to leave the large top cover and shoulder covers off in order to paint them separately.

Has anyone done this and do you have any advice with this?

Also did you find it necessary to paint the inner face part before the final parts were glued?

As with any model, the easiest way to paint it is to leave off any part of the model that would block access to another, or make it difficult to reach. For example, in this batch of Purifiers I'm do, I left off the weapons and backpack, because the 2 handed grips would block the chest and the backpack makes it awkward to get the back of the torso. I also left off the head to prime seperately and this made it easier to paint the inside of the gorget.

Put simply, anything that blocks or restricts painting has to go.

The IK is one of the models you really have to assemble and paint step by step IMO.

- Legs
- upper body without armor plates
- arms&weapons
- shoulders

would be my choice of parts.
All of them fit nicely without glue, so easy to find the look you are going for.

Ok thanks guys. I've never really done this with any model so the concept is still foreign.

So you suggest doing the legs and upper torso separate as well then?
