Which ork flier?

Hey all,

I have recently purchased an ork dakka jet/burna-bomba/blitza-bomber and I can't decide as which of the three to assemble it. I'm leaning more towards the blitza bomber for the lovely armourbane bombs. Is this the best option?

The rest of my army consists of (so far) a warboss, big mek, little mek, two mobs of shoota boyz, one unassembled mob of boyz (should I go shoota or slugga?), a MANZ missile in trukk and a deff dread. I plan on getting some tank bustas and a weird boy at some point.

Any more advice for a starting-out ork player?

Thanks,
Ed

Dakka jets do look fun but I'm worried about my lack of AT weapons. Are they easy to magnetise so I could switch between the two?

Magnetize the forward shootaz on the nose. You simply glue a magnet on the inside of the plane (has to be done before gluing the halves together), and then stuff another magnet inside the shoota mount. Since there are little noses which are supposed to help you put the shoota in the right place, they pretty much snap into the right position once magnetized.

The shootaz on the wings are kind of hard, since you have to magnetize the small bit below the wing, which was a lot of work for me. It's doable, but not easy. If you manage to magnetize them, you just have to switch the shoota for either one of the grills or one of the plates with a skull on it. It will hold in place without magnets unless you knock the plane over.

Much more easy, but less pretty is magnetizing the big shootaz sticking out of the wings. Just cut off the last part, replace with magnets, cover with paint, done.

The grot gunner in the back is probably the easiest. Simply don't glue any of them on, once primed whatever rear variant you need will simply snap in place. If you want both a blitza bommer and a burna bommer, either use one for both, or paint the cupola so no-one sees that the grot is missing. Getting a replacement grot is a lot of work and doesn't look well without modeling skills.

Bombs are easy to magnetize, but you need a strong, flat magnet for inside your wings (measure before ordering!). Put another strong magnet inside your bombs, and your can simply stick them on. Make sure all your magnets in the wings are facing the same way, or otherwise you'll be playing the "which bomb belongs to which plane"-game. Also awesome for keeping track of how many bombs you have dropped.

Last, but not least are skorcha missiles. If you're a perfectionist like me, you can also magnetize those. Increase the size of the holes below the wings until you can fit small magnet in there, cut off little plastic bit on the skorcha missiles and replace with another small magnet. You can now actually show how many missiles your have left. This doesn't sound like much, but it's a very fiddly work, and I think I invented a couple of new curses while doing it.
An easier solution is simply gluing all skorcha missiles to the plane and use dice to keep track of missiles. It's an ork plane, and ork doesn't need a reason to put missiles on his vehicle.

I've magnetized all my three planes this way, and it works like a charm. I can bring any of the three whenever I feel like it.

Which ork flier?

Good modelling tip, I'll also keep that in mind. I've also been wondering which flier is the most effective these days, Dakkajet seems quite good but 10 points more than a Blitza bommer (with Flyboss + Supa Shoota) it seems expensive for a AV10 Ork vehicle. I think I'm going to try running a Blitza or two for a bit and see how useful those bombs are.
