SW codex, Arjac (nominally an Elite choice) states that if he's included in a detachment that also contains Wolf Guard or the TDA variation, he doesn't take up a slot on the FOC. Would I be able to take 1 unit of Wolf Guard Terminators + Arjac and still qualify for the Company of the Great Wolf Detachment in the SW supplement, which requires you to take minimum 1 HQ and 2 Elites? I am not 100% sure of that fact, not any more in any case. I was just reading the Army List Entries That Do Not Use Force Organisation Slots and the general Rules for Force Organization Slots because I believed I saw something which literally stated that point but I was unable to find it. Instead I was able to find a handful of Rules that, when combined together, would make it feasible to argue that the Slotless Unit still applies for the compulsory choices even though it is not 'taking up a slot.' As very strange as the concept just seems in my mind, it might be supportable if you can not assist me in finding a Quote or Rule that I have clearly overlooked.

A Breakdown of my problem:
You must take at least this many units of the appropriate Battlefield Role - These are the instructions telling us how to meet the Requirement those black boxes represent, and it doesn't state anything about slotless units not qualifying as 'units of the appropriate Battlefield Role.'
In either case, these units are part of the Detachment for all rules purposes - I despise this damn wording and here it is yet again, it makes it impossible to state that you can except circumstantial situations without requiring quite a large 'conflict' between the rules.

So, do they take up a slot?
- No
Are they still a Unit of that Battlefield Role which triggers all Detachment Related Rules, such as being included in verifying if mandatory selections have been filled?

They stated "Compulsury number of units" instead of "filled the compulsory slots".
