Been lurking for a while, but thought I would take the DakkaDakka plunge.

I've been painting and gaming ever since I got Hero Quest for Christmas many moons ago. I've played just about every game GW has released since. Just lately though I've gone off GW, I have a rule against buying single models that cost more than the weekly food budget! Anyway Mantic seem to have some fun alternatives and I recently bought a Marauder starter faction for Deadzone. Hopefully I'll pick up the box game soon. I thought I would join DakkaDakka as you seem to have a good few mantic fans and some excellent blogs on here.

I've got a copy of Mars Attacks pre-ordered and thought it would be fun to make a modular game board for it. However i'm not 100% sure how big the gaming board is? From watching the various videos on the web i've picked up some info on it. From what I know the mat is 2 feet square and made up of 3 inch smaller squares. So that would make it 8 squares by 8. Like a chess board I guess. Is this correct?
