Prologue

An ogryn ripper gun churned the earth and sentinels stomped by, crushing and shooting as they went, he watched as spores flew through the air, hitting guards and brining them down, He observed as a whiteshield squad fought to the last man, the flamer letting out a gout of promethium before he died. The tanks were rolling along, but he wasn't. Time to move. Barking an order he sprinted forward with the rag-tag remains of his squad,and firing as they went. Shots volleyed into the beasts, and a man went down, head completley demolished by some hideous weapon. His support grenade launcher boomed, but even as one fell more rushed up to take their place. He stopped, re organised his men in under half a minute, before charging in, a sentinel at his back, and mortar rounds flying overhead. The sentinal charged in, its bulk chrushing the creatures whilst the autocannon ripped holes in the creatures. but it was fighting a losing battle. The monsters scaled the machine and he watched as one fell, then another before a spray of blood marked the end of the pilot. They sprinted in, lasgun shots firing, before it became a whirl of blades and buts, blood flying everywhere. From the distance he saw a flare of a flamer, and one of the remaining tanks boomed as a shell landed to his left. Blood spattered his face but he relalised that his men were dying, the vox caster was downed and shredded by a hermagaunt and another commander's sword fell silent. Men were fleeing or dieing, and many of the artillery pieces had been quite literally ripped to shreds by the horde. . He turned, and blasted away with his bolt pistol, watching in satisfaction as the head of one of the purple Ba***rds exploded in a shower of gore. But he realised that it was a losing battle. He turned, only to see the Inquisitor that had been with the squad ripped to shreds by a hive tyrant.
