Rise of the Knights of Baal

 Welcome, Blood Angel Fanatics

Welcome, to what I hope will become a rather active blog that I can sink some of my spare time into. This blog will feature any painting, modeling, and bat-reps I have using my blood angels. I've collected Models from nearly every army at this point, and I've only painted a very few. This blog will hopefully aim me in the right direction for my goals with Warhammer, both fantasy and 40k. First and foremost, my blood angels, the 4th Company "knights of baal". I chose this Company mainly because of what they are. they are Knights, who enforce the law for the blood angels. And, since they are not one of the more covered companies, it leaves me to think of a lot of fluff on my own. While I am by no means the best painter, I think I'm a little above tabletop, but I am always encouraging any and all pointers you could all give me.

 The Plan
 October
with over 1,000 models to paint, I'm only focusing on one army this month, the Blood Angels, of course!

Week 1
This week I have two goals:
1. Want to base every model I have, as in the base, not base colors, For my blood angels
2. Assemble my remaining NoS models, I don't want to start painting too much because I am expecting a lot of models coming in the post a little after next Monday

Week 2
This week will be the first week I work on transportation as well and painting, mostly because I don't want to have a finished army, and no way to paint it.
1. Base coat all my troops.
2. buy 10 jump packs for my current "assault" marines. I got them a dollar a marine at my FLGS.
3. work on transportation of models.

Week 3
By now I should have all of my models in, so three weeks into a painting blog, and I start to paint!
1.make sure every model is assembled, clean, and base coat all of the remaining
2.start highlights on troops and elites, saving HQ's for last.

Week 4
this week is just continuing to paint this week, nothing to heavy
1. continue basing, and washing the models when they are done. Highlighting after washing and what not.
2. start HQ's, this could easily take up a week on it's own, but we will see.

 The Banner
The Blood Angels have no images of their 4th company banner in any of the current books. However, in the old Blood Angel Codex, there is a list of how the banners are painted, so going based off of that image, here is my best guess at the Knights of baal's company banner:

Re:Rise of the Knights of Baal

 Week 1: Day 1
With the start of the new month, I start on my new goal. Assembly and basing.

 State of the Army
Well, to be blunt, it's a mixed bag of nuts. on one hand I already have models based and washed, and on the other, I still have models on sprew. This weeks goals, As I've said are to finish the bases, and assembly any models, well, thats what's going on. I'll go unit by unit, and go ove what I aim to do by the 7th.

 HQ

Captain

As you can see, it needs everything done, and I mean everything. this week, I want to have it primed, the base itself done, and I want to remove all the mold lines of course.

Master of Rites

I recently got every master of thing models, in part because they are cool, and in part they work as good proxies for chaplains, librarians, and the like. as you can see, he is in the same situation of the captain

Master of Marches

As you all can see, there is a pattern going in my HQ slot.

Master of Relics

See: master of Marches

 Troops

Assault Squad One

as you can see, much more progress than the HQ's, they are only based and most are not based yet.

Tactical Squad One

Not quite as far along as the assault marines, but still moving, I have to un-base these guys, and redo them this week, and that is the project I am looking forward to the least.

Death Company

As you can see, these are the furthest along out of all of them, right?

So, As I said, my only two goals for the next seven days is to base these guys well, and to assemble the models that are not assembled. should be do-able, and it's an easy transition step from doing a model occasionaly, to doing entire squads and what-not.
I'll give and update in a few days when work is actualy being done.

Re:Rise of the Knights of Baal

 Week 1: Day 2
Well, last night I effectively finished the bases that I currently have

State of the Army
being that nothing was done to the actual army, this is more a "state of the bases"
I don't know what to call this scheme, but it looks cool, so I'll give a brief tutorial on how I did it.

Step 1: the prep work

As you can all see, the bases were already half flocked or covered in paint in some way.

And this is after the first washing. Don't be worried about paint left behind, just try and get off anything that gave it texture. I used plain hot water and my fingers to rub off the grass. You may have to use a pair of clippers to get off some of the super glue left behind, if you had already attacked models to it.

Step 2: adding the Texture

So this step is very simple, so simple that all of you probably already know how.

Here are the supplies I used, some fine-ish grit rocks from woodland terrain, and wood glue/white glue. basically, your goal is to cover every base thickly in glue. too thin and its not strong enough to hold the rocks.

this is the bases after the glue had dried. You are still going to get a lot of rocks flaking off untill you spray paint them the base color.

I just used a matte spray paint to cover the rocks. This picture makes a great segue to explain why I didn't leave them black. If you just leave them black, you can sometimes see the texture, but as you dry brush more and more, it looks not only more natural, but you can see the detail.

Step 3: Let there be color

Once the paint has dried you are going to need a decent dry brush, and these paints:

You are going to use them in the order I have them in the picture, just dry brush them on one at a time, applying the wash conservatively, I used the wash to blend the previous two dry brushes. and finally, dry brush the ceramite white over the top as highlighting.

After the first two steps

finished:

As you might be able to see, I added some blood effect onto the base to cover some spots that werent covered to well by the spray, but to also add a little bit of contrast to the base, instead f leaving it black and grey.
