TOY FAIR 2014: STAR WARS HASBRO TOY GALLERY

The Force is strong — with action figures and plastic lightsabers — at Toy Fair 2014. Hasbro has unveiled new toys and vehicles for several major Star Wars lines, including Star Wars Rebels, the Black Series (including deluxe-size creatures and vehicles in the 6-inch collector’s line!), the brand-new Star Wars Command, and lots more. STAR WARS REBELS

Based on the upcoming animated series, Hasbro showed off the first toys and vehicles for Star Wars Rebels. Ezra, Kanan, Chopper, and the crew of the Ghost will soon join classic Star Wars icons — immortalized in 3.75-inch form.


STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES 6-INCH

Hasbro made history with its collector-oriented line, The Black Series, which introduced the first ever highly detailed, 6-inch Star Wars figures. It’s been a massive success thus far, and is expanding with a deluxe assortment of even larger figures, including Jabba the Hutt and a Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper.


STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES 3.75-INCH

Not to be outdone by their 6-inch cousins, the 3.75-inch Black Series figures continue to impress in areas of articulation, paint-apps, and playability in the classic Star Wars toy scale. New entrants include Dagobah Luke, Snowtrooper, and more.


STAR WARS ARMORY

The Star Wars Armory line brings home the weapons of a galaxy far, far away, with a major new entry revealed at Toy Fair: The Inquisitor’s double-bladed lightsaber from Star Wars Rebels.


STAR WARS COMMAND

Star Wars Command is a brand new line of smaller scale figures and vehicles designed to allow easy recreations of epic battles.


STAR WARS HERO SERIES

The Star Wars Hero Series continues Hasbro’s larger scale interpretations of characters, now including heroes and villains from Star Wars Rebels.



STAR WARS MISSION SERIES

Additions to the Star Wars Mission Series, two-packs of 3.75-inch figures based on worlds, include Utupau (Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous), Bespin (Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader), and more.


It's the Star Wars Command specifically that I am opening this up for.
Looks like a younger audience than W40K or Imperial Assault, here is a commercial for it (saw it on Youtube in front of an Extra Credit episode)


It's, uh... I don't know how I feel about just charging into Darth Vader with a Millenium Falcon.

Crossbows and catapulsa was great, but clearly also a lot more game-y with the castle walls and rules for knocking over towers and such. I'd friggin' love a legitimate Star Wars wargame, though! I remember that I liked the WotC CMG when it was still around. It wasn't the greatest game ever and I'm not a huge fan of "collectible" games, miniature, card, or otherwise, but at least it was a Star Wars miniatures game. You wouldn't even need to modify the rules, you could build Jedi by choosing the right psychic powers; force jump/push, deflect laser bolts, etc .

The plus point for wargamers is that here is a potential source of good, cheap models for use in various scales of game. I could see the larger ships being modified for X-Wing or the big scale navy game. The infantry look like they would fit well with 1/35 or 1/32 scale figures for use in RPGs or skirmish games.

Yes, the sculpts are a bit goofy, it is a children's toy after all.

My comment goes more to the apt comparison to Green Army Men. They are certainly cheap but that is not really a factor considering the huge array of really nice looking miniatures out there representing WW2 - modern soldiers.

Similarly, I would be much more tempted to get these miniatures if they were the only option.

FYI there was another line of SW miniatures sold in the toy isle under the name "Unleashed." These were prepainted and significantly better looking that the SW Command figs. You can still find packs of them around the net.

Our 6 year old son got a box of these as a gift from a classmate for his birthday last month. They are decent toys but there's no rules for them, at least they didn't come with any. They remind me of the plastic men that came with the Fort Apache set I had as a kid. A bit better looking as the manufacturing tech has improved but they're just soft plastic kid's toys. If your nephew likes star wars or narrative play with toys in general he'd probably like them.
