What is considered fair game when modifying a GW model?

Hi everyone,

Is there an FAQ of what is generally considered OK (legal ??) when modifying a 40K model?

We are building more Ork Boys for the Pink Orkys and were thinking of modifying some of them (different helmets and stuff like that).

Found some pretty nicely done ones in 'real life' tank models - but wasn't sure if that would be frowned on in a game.

(Pretty much had the same question when working on a looted wagon - is it OK to use tank model parts? Or is the general practice to _only_ use GW tank bits?)

Many thanks

Our pink orks and blog link: http://battlegaming1.blogspot.com/p/warhammer-40k.html

It really depends on where you're playing.

If you're playing in a store, it's a good idea to check if they have any rules on what you use.

Gaming clubs tend to be much more relaxed. Tournaments, like stores, will each have their own rules.

If you're just playing at home with friends, do whatever the heck you want.

Just ask your opponent what's fair game for them. I have a friend who used a model of a F-4U Corsair as a Dakkajet (granted, it was heavily 'Ork-ified'). Hell, I've used a can of beans as a drop pod. As long as your opponent ok'd it, let your imagination run wild.

A cool conversion is cool.

Tanks? As long as they're somewhere close to the size of the GW kit it should be fine too - Ork vehicles can look like anything. But as above, make sure your opponent knows what it is. Mistaking a Battlewagon for a Trukk isn't fun.
