Hello all,

Thought i may start with Space Wolfs but i dont rly understand their position in the game, i mean i get they are part of the space marines but it seems there are a thousand "tribes" of them.
I allready tried to get a hold of it by checking the official page and wiki but i dont rly understand the concept, there is just to much story behind it.

So my questin is how many space marine tribes are there? And how do they difference? Is it just a different painting or do they have different units/weapons etc.

I would also appreciate generall tips about starting a wargame, what coulors and brushs to buy etc

regads

Thinking about starting 40k

Welcome to Dakka!

I dont know much about SW but for paints and brushes....

Paints are whatever fits in your budget and what your preference is. I personally like Vallejo and Reaper Pro Paints. And there are many brands out there, Just research and experiment.

As for brushes, again there are tons of different ones out there. And just because a brush is expensive doesnt mean its good. I personally prefer Kolinski Sable but that is just me. I have many different sizes that run all the way down to 30/0 which I use for eyes.

In case you dont know, your FINE tip brushes all start at 0 I think and you will most often find 0, 00, or 000. I use these brushes mostly for fine details on the figs. As I said above, I use 30/0 for eyes, but also use 10/0 and 20/0 for the eyes as well.

and 30/0, 20/0 and 10/0 are nothing more than just 30x0, 20x0, 10x0.

I hope this helps some and doesnt confuse you.

It does ofcourse,

I did take a look at the two colors you mentioned, they both look like regular model painting colors. The problem i may have with those would be that i dont get the right color schemes like they are supposed to be.

What about the official Games Workshop colors, citadel seems to be the name. They have speciall color packs, one is for Space Wolfs. What about those are they any good or to overprized?

Then there are the drivers, support staff, Techs, etc.
But, rules-wise, there are only 14 or so.
Codex:Space Marines lists most common chapters, and the rules that make them different. Ultramarines are the most 'generic', the others being more specialised. White Scars like bikes, Iron Hands are tough, etc.
Space Wolves do not teleport or use common Psyker powers, and use drop pods more than most other chapters.

To glue plastic models so they never come apart, use plastic glue. It melts the plastic where it touches, and will become 1 piece. It doesn't dry straight away, so is good for adjusting position before it sets.
Super glue can stick almost anything, but dries brittle. It also sticks in place very quickly.
Super glue can be taken apart after some time on the freezer. Some people will not buy 2nd-hand models that used plastic glue, only super glue, for that reason.
