painting commissions are they worth it?

Greetings Dakka members, I have decided to take to the forum to ask you guys some questions about painting services. Without going into to much detail I have recently come into financial trouble and am in serious need of funds after brain storming I have come up with an idea to offer my skills and start a small painting service. I do not plan on starting this as a full time career but given my current circumstances a few extra bucks here and there will help me out loads. Now I don't profess to be the best painter out there I'm not in fact I'm far from it but I do consider myself a decent painter. My idea is that I really only want to produce tabletop quality models rather than painting extreme details on models not because im not capable but because I want to be able to take on a few projects at a time. Dont get me wrong I would paint these 'tabletop' quality models to a standard which make the minis look great on the battlefield I just wont be using techniques like fading with airbrushes and advanced blending techniques as I just wont be able to knock out enough projects in time. Basically I wish to offer a service that is designed for people that want their models painted to a standard that looks good on the table because let's face it playing with grey minis sucks and we all know it. I just want to ask you guys do you know if this is worth me doing because of my urgency for money and the fact I am only painting to a table top standard I have decided to offer my services at a really low price in hope I will get some projects soon, I am uk based and would prefer to take projects on from the uk but it dies not mean I will not make exceptions would any of you guys be interested in hiring me to paint your armies, comment below and we can work out a plan and I can send you some of my work even paint a mini for you for free providing you send the mini to me to give you an example of what quality your models would be painted at so please guys hit up the comments sections cheers

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Typed this on my phone as I don't have a computer so sorry for any grammar mistakes guys~ J

Well, I guess the question is how fast can you paint table-top quality? For example, can you paint TTQ Marines in under an hour?

Do you have time to paint a unit of, say, 10 duders in a week? Realize that you're looking at probably 10 hours, so if you have a part time job, that makes you full time, you follow? Hard to make it to new interviews for other jobs.

What are you hoping to charge? Keep in mind, that if you want to make minimum wage [$11.00 an hour in Ontario] and it takes you 10 hours to paint a squad of Marines, you'll be charging $110 to paint $50 worth of minis. Do you know many people that would pay $160 for a painted tactical squad?

Do you have someone with a little knowledge of legalese? Consider what happens if you don't have a contract, and someone decides to not pay? You've just worked for free, because the property [models] belong to the owner, regardless of condition.

Explaining what TTQ means to someone without doing a model or two for them is challenging, as buyers want the moon and the stars, while you're actively trying to provide down-to-Earth results.

If you can offer an understandable price, lots of WIP pictures for your clients, strong communication, and time efficiency, you should have no problem with a commission. Just realize that your clients are entrusting you to meet a deadline and create good results. You have to be responsible enough to meet these expectations in order to do more in the future.
