[1500] - Harlequins - bringing RT to the 7th edition

The idea is to base a force on the RT era army list (with name references in brackets below). Alongside this, the updated citadel journal and the latest apocalypse campaign valdor mean you have a much more comparable ruleset to try and match.

To kick off… here is the initial counts as thoughts -

Troupe Master (High Avatar) – Second only to the solitaire in combat, the Troupe Master is closest to the Archon (dark eldar) or Autarch (eldar). Personally, I could go either way on this one – the Archon might be better suited (with a clone or shadow field) if only to make sure that he does not have a 3+ armour save!

Troupe Leader (Avatar) – already part of the harlequin unit entry

High Shadowseer (High Warlock) – the combat psyker is less of a thing these days and the humble farseer (or possibly eldrad) fit this bill nicely.

Shadowseer (Warlock) – already part of the harlequin unit entry. As a side note, a unit of warlocks or spirit seers could also form up a ‘shadow troupe’ much like the RT era of mid level psyker heros

Master Death Jester (Master Death Jester) – Maugan Ra is an easy choice but I don’t care for that personally. An autarch with reaper launcher is also a good comparison. Ultimately though he may just be an exarch for the dark reapers (see below)

Solitaire (Solitaire) – this is a tough one. In RT he had psychic powers, a multitude of weapon options and was just scary in combat. It could go a couple of ways… A dark eldar succubus could work though I think Lilith Hesperax is a better call thanks to rampage and silly high WS and I. The other option I have considered is an Imperial assassin – specifically a Callidus. Again, very high stats, allies rules make them distrusted to a good chunk of the force, neural shredder of old, shows up unannounced, hard to kill, dangerous… I think that fits the bill perfectly

Harlequin Troupe (Harlequins) – the harlequin unit entry.

Death Jesters (Death Jesters) – already exists in the harlequin unit entry but I think I would like to separate them out and use dark reapers to represent them.

Master Mime (Master Mime) – not sure where to go with this one. I think the ideal role representation is a squad leader for mimes

Mimes (Mimes) – Mandrakes maybe? Wyches? Given the need for troops choices wyches seem the best bet.

Harlequin Jetbikes (Harlequin Jetbikes) – wind riders are an easy pick but reavers or even shining spears could work I guess.

Venom (na) – Venom entry from dark eldar dex

Vyper (na) – Vyper entry from eldar dex

Harlequin Wraithlord (Harlequin Dreadnaught) – An eldar wraithlord or (FW permitted) a Wraith seer. I don’t think I can bring myself to do a wraith knight on principle…

(Harlequin looted vehicles) – pretty much any eldar or dark eldar vehicle fits here. Harlequins in RT used to loot any vehicle they could, get it running and then use it till it broke. Essentially they had looted wagons from the Ork book! Regardless, this forms a catch all choice for any vehicles I want to add.

With that in mind, the rough army list looks like the following…
Dark Eldar Units - Archon, wyches, venoms
Eldar Units – Farseer, warlocks, spirit seers, Harlequins, dark reapers, wind riders, vypers, wraith lords
Imperial Units – Callidus assassin

I would LOVE to add some eldar flyers in harlequin colours – crimson hunters (done up as a death jester perhaps?), hemlocks (shadowseers?), razorwings and void ravens. Points become a factor at this stage though!

At a minimum…

Eldar CAD
Farseer – 100
2x3 Wind Riders – 2x51 – 102
3x5 Harlequins, 5 Harlequins Kiss, shadowseer – 3x140 – 420
3 Dark Reapers – 90
Dark Eldar RRD
Archon, clone field, agoniser – 105
2x5 Wyches, venoms with no upgrades – 2x105 – 210
5 Venoms (3 for harlequins, 1 for dark reapers, 1 for HQ) with no upgrades – 5x55 – 275
Assassin Detachment
Callidus Assassin – 145
TOTAL – 1447

How does it look? Not the most competitive I will admit! How would you make this better?

I love the ideas behind this, especially the Assassin. The fact it works alone and is distrusted by rest of force, turns up un-announced etc great idea.

Interesting.
You could have a look at 40k-online. Rasmus has made a nice Harlie codex.
Much more advanced than that of Gav Thorpe.

I find that the DRs are a bit out of place.
